Well the shippers arrive on Thursday to pack up and I've got to the bathroom ... more like the lab I think. Despite months of trying to "use" everything before we go there I still have a box full of painkillers, cold & flu remedies, creams etc, all over the counter stuff that isn't used regularly but there if needed and quite a lot of it unused and unopened. I realise the MAF restrictings on prescription medicines and will be taking any of that with me on the plane but can I pack any of this over the counter stuff in the container instead of bulking up my luggage. OK it isn't much but just can't bring myself to throw it all away. I have a spare plastic container with the sealing lid that it can all fit in and thought I'd put it in there.
Any suggestions?

Got be honest - if it was me- pack it. Cost of meds over here can make your eyes water :wah
We sent meds over - but we did make sure that they were in a specific labled MAF box - which means that MAF dont then have to trawl through everything. Most Over the counter stuff seems to be ok, but I would be cautious of anything with Pseudoephidrine in (check cold remedies). Its not that you CANT bring it - but do make sure you dont bring a lot of it. There may be an issure with Codiene as well, but Im not sure about that.
My understanding is that taht even if they dont allow stuff in - you will generally get into trouble if you dont decalre it and they subsequently find it - than if you bring it but decalred it. Its just easier on the stress levels to set it aside and tell them you are bringing it through, then customs / maf can decide.
Does that help? LMK if its not clear.

Yeh pack it, the cost of purchasing it here again would make you sick.
Juts make sure you list it as the contents of the medicine cabinet, or let the shippers pack it and put it on the inventory.
Unless of course you have 98 packets of Sudafed.......;)

Thanks guys ... will just throw it all into the plastic box and let the packers handle it. There isn't loads, no codiene based or anything other than standard stuff - blackcurrent lemsips and sudafed from round of colds in the house month. Got a container with bisto, boullion vege stock, ham stock cubes and cadbury chocolate packed as well! Actually these are an order from friends who moved out in March - I'm a returning NZer (ex 10 years) and don't like bisto anyway!
Right, off to hit the bathroom and next the study ... just staring at it won't get it done!

Can I take my natural sea sponges or are they bio-hazards?

Trying to figure out why you would take Cadbury chocolate to NZ when it is so readily available (and in a million different varieties) there??
Confused,
Amy.

Re Cadbury's - apparently it tastes different but don't quote me, only a request from a Brit in NZ who said if I was putting together some stuff chuck in so Cadbury's Dairy Milk. He thinks it has something to do with putting something in it to stop it melting, who knows. Hmm Dairy Milk, Lemsips and pain killers ... interesting combination - things we do for friends!
In serious panic about getting things ready for packers on Thursday. OH away overseas and been delayed because of Hurricane Ernest or something in Florida so I'm left to get it all sorted. Medicine cabinet last of my worries now. We are in furnished rented accommodation and have to get everything up to our lockup/storage unit by Thurs 9am and I have to be in Newcastle to collect OH by 12.30 which is 1.5 hours drive away. Thought we were sorted and not much to go but the garage is filling by the minute with all the last minute stuff ! 24 hours left with the PC then all gone, no TV, no computer ekkk forgot about the phones, will have to pack them! Oh dear this is madness! Roped in friends father to help, can't lift the TV by myself of there'll be a last minute claim on the insurance.
Now I know what people mean by stress!
