... six sachets of Bisto onion and ale gravy to be exact (I love my mum, she knows what a girl wants!), but the daft woman declared it on the customs form!

My parcel came to me having been opened and re-packed, with Bio-Security stickers all over it, but they didn't confiscate my gravy :clap

It seesmt that sachets of gravy granuals are acceptable, so if you're coming over, bring lots, bring some for me too - its the only thing I miss, gravy here is very different.

Kind of sad I guess that the only thing I have to worry about is gravy! :exit

haven't actually tried NZ gravy as we tend to have stir frys. But don't try one of those Continental Tika masalas (with the two pots) The first pot turned the chicken that pinky red colour as usual, but the sause...gosh it was sooo sweet and smelled odd! like it had washing up liquid in it.

I have started buying spices and making them myself...

Now all I need is to get a veg plot going, chooks and a cow for milk and I'm sorted..

Ha ha

Hi Dawn,

I could've sworn I posted a reply here yesterday and now it's not here. Another one of my posts is missing from another thread I posted on yesterday..... ......have I upset someone and am now having my posts deleted? I also got an email message about your reply to my message. Glad all is going well anyway Dawn. And glad you're over your blip of a couple of weeks ago (we all have them from time to time - I always try to remind myself that I had them in London too!!). Glad the boys have settled well, kids are wonderful at adapting to new circumstances, aren't they.

Just checked out the house pics. Parkings a bit tight then hmmm?? :laugh :laugh

Love the local beaches too. And I want your house - it's lovely. Bet you can't wait to move in and get settled. Do the boys get to stay at the same schools they're already at? (Sorry, don't know that area of the country at all).

I really wish we didn't have such a long settlement date, I'm dying to get in there and start painting!!

The beaches are amazing, very wild and rugged, fantastic :D

The best news that I got was that the boys will go to the same schools, the bus stops at the end of our drive to pick them up and drops them off at the door. We'll be 20 mins out of Palmy, 10 mins from Himitangi, a little place called Bainesse.

You are absolutely correct Sal, Lewis made me promise that we'd paint his room before we did anything else - "You can't seriously expect me to sleep in there mum!"

If the colour of his room is all he's worried about, I'm very happy :D

gravy granules !!
LOL - yes, we miss them too. The NZ gravy is just crap compared to bisto. That ' maggi ' stuff - YUK!

Theres an ' English ' shop in Nelson that sells Bisto, but its about $8.50 for a pot. Might be worth the investment though eh !?

I noticed Bramptins, the English food shop on Riccarton Rd in Chch, has closed down.

Not that we used it, and the stock was terrible too. And not the best placed site amongst a huge Asian population on Riccarton Road - would have done far better at the Merivale Mall or somewhere like that... Wonder if it's moved...

There are a couple of branches of Bramptins in Auckland too - the one in Browns Bay has awful stock, often really close to the use by date. The one in Orewa (actually I'm not sure that is a Bramptins, it could just be a British shop) is way better.
I don't actually miss that much food wise anymore. I occasionally think about wanting a Caramac or bag of Monster Munch, but more to reminisce about them than anything else...
Oh, and I did buy a box of Farley's Rusks there once, mainly as we had been talking about them at work and I wanted to show them to everyone. An expensive demo as if I recall it cost about 10 bucks for the box!

Snap - and after 2 yrs of eating Oak brand baked beans I couldn't even tell you what Heinz tasted like anymore!

Our local Bramptins has a grunty teenage assistant now too, just to make you feel real at home!

The other staff are all lovely, but this one barely said hi!

It is well stocked mostly though. Apart from the fact it keeps running out of Alpen!

forgot to ask, Dawn, whens the house warming????
