Hello! We are thinking of moving to NZ and have been searching some sites to get an idea of jobs and salaries. Just wondering if anyone knows whether Business Analysts are needed and what level of tech skills are in demand. Any input will be appreciated!

Come quickly - we are desperate for business analysts where I work! The IT industry here is incredibly healthy, and well paid compared to most other areas of work.
Job adverts don't usually tend to state salaries, but a contractor can earn anything from $50-100 an hour.

Yes, BA's are sought after in Welly as well. A run of the mill sr BA can expect a salary around 80-85k for a permanent position. Singel's link is pretty spot on in my experience.

Most ads state that the employer requires knowledge of RUP, UML, SQL, use cases and that sort of thing. I hate writing use cases and have very little experience with most other structured methodologies but have no trouble getting job offers despite that. The only difficulty is finding your first job. They all want "recent NZ experience" which is pretty hard if you just got here. My advice is to take any reasonable job offered and if you don't like it start looking around after a couple of months. Worked for me in any case.

Good luck!

That's a great link Singel - thanks.
I'm only really familiar with contracting rates in the last couple of years, and they are very different to salary rates.
