My husband is in the Sign business here in GA, and we're thinking of moving... anyone know about this business in NZ and what types of jobs might be in demand?

While not a signwriter here in NZ, I did work as one for a number of years in Scotland.

The sign industry looks pretty bouyant at least in Hawkes Bay - there are twenty sign companies listed in the yellow pages here. So if you are serious I would look up the yellow pages for your preferred area and email a few of them.

Also there seems to be quite an active letterheads community here - there is a meeting in Napier this October. www.letterhead.com/events.html (http://www.letterhead.com/events.html)

Also you could probably make some contacts via their forum and the signcraft magazine discussion board as well.

Asfor types of signs - a bit of everything really, painted, Vinyl, lots of wall signs, some quite nice vehicle wraps etc. Have not seen many inspiring truck cabs or pinstriping, at least compared with the traditional ones in Scotland.

Hi i worked for a safety sign manufacturer in Hamilton. Manufacturing road safety signs ,and all sorts of health and safety stuff including the multi hazard flip signs for trucks the company i worked for was part of a group of about 6 companies . wages for managing one of the companies varied from $60,000 to $70,000 NZ pls bonuses.I also went to the road sign manufacturers annual meeting seems quite a big business . My partner's dad runs a signwriting business in Christchurch. He does big roadside billboards, fleet vehicles and building signs.
