Been putting it off and off and off, finally went to VTNZ today with form completed, ID and UK license. Took an eye test, paid my $84, had my mugshot :o, sat my scratchcard test and got 35/35. WooHoo!

I was really nervous as I absolutely hate tests/exams of any kind (yet breezed my bike theory) but the VTNZ ladies were fine. I went to the VTNZ on the industrial estate, full of truckers but quieter than the test centre's in town.

I went and sat in their office to do my scratchcards, I thought it would be strict exam conditions :D All very informal really and quick, took 15-20 mins and most of that was me flapping!

Marie IF you fail I think they just give you another set of test papers to scratch (not sure if you pay more money) I 'failed' the eyesight test on one line out of 5 and she was muttering about me going for an eyetest. As she gave me my temp license, I asked where to go for the eyetest and she said it's fine we'll put it down to nerves. She'll be right!images/smilies/rae%27s_dancing_banana.gif

Now I just have to go back and do my bike test, my shattered nerves couldn't take any more yesterday. I didn't even tell the OH I was going. I had a smile a mile wide when I got home.

Though, I had no doubts what so ever you would breeze through it. Bet that drive back to Eastbourne was all the sweeter knowing you're an 'official NZ licence holder'. :laugh

Question: I know you have to take test re driving a car, is it the same for Motor Bike? OH has a ZXR passed test here, does he have to take again in NZ.

Short answer yes, two separate tests!

You can take it at the same time as you 'convert' your UK driving license. I would have done both tests at the same time but I was tooo nervous.

I did my direct access 4 years ago in UK and have a full bike license. All I had to do here was the scratchcards.

They consist of 35 questions -

10 questions for dippy's like

"whats the safest footwear to ride in"
a/ leather boots
b/ jandals
c/ plimsolls.

Then 25 questions on the road code stuff like
"When can you park on this broken yellow line"
a/ for 10 minutes
b/ Never
c/ Between 8pm and 3am. That kinda thing.

OH did his car and bike test this week. As we have been here a year now, we thought they mention the out of date thing. She looked at the wrong entry date stamp on his passport but we didn't realise that til we came away, oops. :p

He passed both but the AA lady sent us away for a cuppa because he'd finished too quickly for the computer. It's nice knowing we're all legit now. :cheers but not of course while driving. :uhoh
