Just a little query.

We had all our stuff shipped over by Crown in February, a 20' container full of furniture etc from the house we were living in at the time. As a person who moved around in the UK my poor Dad (up in Scotland) ended up with several pieces of my furniture (including a piano), boxes of stuff etc.

Whilst on our weekly Skype call he asked whether I would be having that stuff sent over anytime soon. (looks like he's keen to have a clear out). I hadn't really thought about it, but now we've just bought a big house I could certainly make use of it all.

Trouble is I don't know where I stand with regards to bringing in more items 6 months after we emigrated, eg customs, tax and not being in the UK to sign the paperwork.

Anyone brought stuff over after they've settled here? I'd be interested to hear if you have.

you have 5 years to bring your stuff in and can do as many ship overs as you want - as long as its your personal stuff (ie if there are 20 new computers or settees I guess they would get suspicious!

this is straight from the Horses mouth so to speak, I asked the really nice customs guy at the invercargill office, as I was worried about the extra stuff my boys may want shipping over...good job too as I too have a mum with the rest of our belongings in her garage...and she wants rid of it too!

Shoulnt be a problem - when we used crown it was for sending stuff over about 4 months after we arrived. Although it was my parenst stuff - it had to be sent to us, and the quote from crown was made in our names (because we were residents and my parenst werent) - even though my parenst paid for it.

So you really should not have a problem. :)

I'm sure my dad will be delighted when I tell him. Mind you I think he was taking matters into his own hands and phoning some shippers himself. Get the feeling he's keen to get shot of my stuff, either that or he's planning to downsize and move himself over here of 6 months of the year. (sound familiar Helen?)
