Having been an avid viewer of this informative and friendly site for some weeks, I've finally manged to get myself organised and registered. This is really just to introduce myself and say hello. I'm in the process of submitting my application for PR under the partnership category as I've been married to a New Zealander for some years. I'm Scottish. We plan to come out Jan/Feb and are both really looking forward to it. Having read some of the posts it seems that 2 - 3 months seems about the time frame for applications under this category but maybe thats on the hopeful side. I'm waiting for my police check and the results of my medical to be posted to me before I can submit my full application and hopefully these won't be too long away. If anyone has any other tips for speeding up my application, these would be very much appreciated! Many thanks.

Hi Scotia

Welcome to the forum.

I'm afraid I can't help with the timescale as we're not applying under the same category. Curious though - which part of Scotland are you from? We currently live in Dunfermline but I'm originally from Leeds and OH is from Cheshire.

From Cheshire I am indeed - that's me. Currently in Costa-Del-Fife, so if you still live on the frozen side of the border maybe we could meet for some beer and musings about NZ ?

:cheers

Welcome.

Just wanted to Hi and welcome the band of nutters that we all are - you'll know exactly what i mean when you're a few more months into the process - if you are stressed, slightly mad, or just crazy, now -- well wait a couple of months IT GETS WORSE!!!!!! :laugh

Seriously everyone here has their ups and downs and its like a big family we share them all!!

Welcome to the forum !! The timescales you mention are about right. My application for PR under the partnership category (I'm married to a a Kiwi too) took exactly 3 months from day 1 to blue stickers landing on my doorstep. I don't have any tips for speeding this process up, but if you're not planning on getting here until the new year you'll have plenty of time so no need to panic.

If there's any other way I can help regarding info on the partnership category please feel free to ask.

Good luck.

Diny

Thanks all for your welcome and words of encouragement. Was wondering whether going down to the NZ offices in London with all the paperwork, passport etc would speed up the process rather than sending it. Any thoughts? We are in the process of selling our house in Scotland and due to my husbands work, we will be living in Ireland pretty much up to Christmas. A cheap flight would probably cost the same as posting it registered post!

Heya scotia,

2-3 months is round about the average time for partner visa processing, as diny mentioned above (mine took just under 2 months).

I lived in London at the time of applying so I just went to NZ House and handed over my paperwork. It took about 20 mins total from waiting to be called in the waiting room to giving all the documents to a very nice lady :D

Good luck with everything,

Jen :)

yay! good luck with it all..
my boyfriend of nearly 3 years (irish) sent in his application about a week after we had been living together for a year(one of many criteria for partnership category!!) and it was all done in under two months.they seem to be flying through them at the moment so you might get a result sooner than you think! he got is approval in principle sooner than we thought as we were given a timeline of 4 months!! the letter was a shock but a good one!!!

so yeah, good luck and the people at the london office are really sound :)

It may well speed things up, but when I posted my application I got notification by return of post that all docs had been received and checked. Unless you have any major desires for a trip down to London you may be as well to just post it off.

The cost of recorded delivery is alot but fairly cheap compared to all that on the spot shopping you'd have to do whilst down in the big smoke.

By the way - where abouts in Scotland are you, we lived in Aberdeen for a number of years in the early 90's.

hi diny and scotia

not having been to london (to visit the queen or prince william at least), i daresay i would go to the nz london office for the 20 minutes, and then pop in and out of the shops and museums and pubs and whatever can give me a sense of English life. i have only snippets of english culture and daily living from all the novels and good housekeeping (UK version) mags that i buy from time to time. wish i could get the real thing.

but shopping! harrods? marks and spencer? i'm excited! (this latter one is well known here in the philippines but quite expensive and out of reach for the average filipino. it's one of the upscale shops here.)

cheers

Would have been in Aberdeen at the same time as you Dinny! Lived there for amost 15 years. In the city until 1990, and then moved out to the lovely rural countryside north of Aberdeen until 1997 before moving south. Fond memories of the granite city but not the cold!
