Does anyone know if its OK to send medications and syringes by post? My hubby is on an injectible medication and wants to ship stuff ahead. The meds are all in original packaging but I'm worried that the syringes will create a problem.

On a related note, can you just buy syringes at the pharmacy or do you need a prescription to buy them? I haven't had any luck asking this question at our local pharmacy (which seems to exist mostly to sell makeup and hair dye anyhow) as they look at me oddly, tell me I have to ask the pharmacist directly as soon as he's back from the fifteenth coffee break of the day which he never is...

We had to send some meds in our container and it did cause us a slight problem. we had listed them on our shipping details and thought that was enough. but the shipping company needed a copy of the prescriptions and a letter from our doctor saying why we needed them and what they were for. luckily the doctors faxed the info to the shipping company for us for a fee of 15 pounds. We did have some dna sample tubes sent in the post for some research we ar taking part in and nz customs opened them and checked them and didnt seal them properly before sending them on so i would say see if you can get them here if you dont want any hassle but that is only our experience, may not be same for everyone . Cheers Cardy :nice1

What kind of syringes are you talking about? You can buy 1ml and 0.5ml syringes, the type used by insulin injecting diabetics in pharmacies. Also many pharmacies also sell 1ml, 3ml, 5ml and 10ml syringes and the separate needles, though these are mostly bought by drug addicts. (we are encouraged to sell such items to promote the use of clean equipment).

Not sure about sending such items from abroad, I'd advise checking with customs.

Hope that helps

PS I'd love to know which pharmacy lets their pharmacist take so many tea-breaks, I'm lucky if I can finish a cup of tea before it goes cold.
