Hi there all, was just wondering if anyone could help. Our 19 yr old daughter is hoping to come out to visit us next January. She is serving with the US army in Kaiserschlatern, & her nearest airport is Frankfurt I think. She has managed OK to fix herself up with flights in the past when she flew to the UK to visit her Uncle & Aunt there, but is going nuts trying to find any reasonably priced flights over to NZ next Jan. She managed to find one but it was going to cost the equivalent of about $US3000. That seems to be an awful lot but as we flew here from the US I really don't know what the prices are like from over there. I know there are a few posters from Europe on here so can anyone give me an idea of costs & airlines she should be checking with.

Singapore Airlines seem to be about 1300euros return from frankfurt to christchurch in jan. certain dates are about 1700euros but depends on how much flexibility your daughter has. try having a look anyway - www.singaporeair.com

That does seem excessively high.

Has she considered buying one flight to London, and then another onto NZ. She'll need to leave plenty of time between them and check she is insured for a missed flight, and it will extend the journey, but it may bring the cost down substantially.

I find that Thai usually has good fares from major European destinations and she can stay a night in Bangkok if she wants to break up her journey. I see that KLM still has some reasonable fares for January, but remember that it is the high season and most good value seats will already be gone. Viel Glueck!
