Hiya folks

Im hear again for more info please. We will be arriving in Wellington on the 24th and need to get a rental asap, considering our container arrives on the 03/10.

Now we will both be working at the Welly hospital, have 2 boys aged 2.8 and 8 months.

I have searched on the forum etc and quite like the idea of Tawa, Johnsonville and Khandallah.

However there doesnt seem to be much info on the forum about areas south and around Newtown for example Brooklyn, Melrose, Kilbirnie. Now considering we looking at a maximum rent of $400p/w hopefully lower and a garden is there any suggestions from anyone in the know?

the above website is really handy.ive found flats there before and my family rented our house on it. (click "for rent" when you search options unless you want to get houses for sale!!)

ps speaking to family and friends who live in welly, you seem to, as with everywhere, get better value for money (size of house and yard wise) out of the popular suburbs. johnsonville looks good value from what ive looked at myself as i will be moving to welly also.newtown/mt cook/vogletown have lots of students cause of the drama school and uni's near by i think.

Thanks for that, im actually on trade me and all the other property sites almost all day.

What im actually after is knowing about areas south ie I know Johnsonville etc im after info about areas south and around Newtown.

Are you in Welly? Or have you searched like me through the forums about areas?

Newtown has some nice areas and some not so nice areas, worth looking at but be careful. Brooklyn, Melrose, Kilbirnie are all fine, Brooklyn is hilly though which may or may not matter depending on what you find there. Island bay and Lyal Bay are some other areas to look at.

Sister in law works at Welly hospital in the icu. She has just bought a house in Johnsonville area, however did share accomodation up until recently.

Try this site, they have several 2-3 bedroom houses available mid-September in Johnsonville. Just click on search rentals.

im not in wellington at the moment but im moving there in december.i have friends in vogletown and newtown and a cousin who lived in khandalla(sp?) i think but she now lives thorndon which she said is quite posh and she really likes living there.she lives in a big 1920s house. ive been told vogletown is fairly quiet and nice to live in. have heard positive things about mt cook and mount vic too but no specifics.
