What a grueling process this has been as you ALL know, whether you are just thinking about the move, or have gone as far as to make it a reality. MANY times I have thought "Am I doing the right thing?", or just had general freak outs, but this last week has really changed those thoughts for me.

I STRUGGLED to get a job offer in order to submit my EOI- I had 90 points without it, and now 150 with it. My new employers found me on this website, complaining to another girl who was a hairdresser as well (there are hardly ANY of us on here) about not being abe to find a job offer. They must have seen my thread, and they contacted me via this forum.

They requested my CV, and several letters of reference, and before you know it they offered me a position at Rodney Wayne, a very well established salon chain in New Zealand. Now, while I know I am good, probably even above average from what they are used to, they have nothing but my word, and my paperwork ot go off of.

These nice people who have hired me without meeting me have looked for a place for me and my dogs to live when I get there (which is not easy), for awhile now. They found a furnished place BY THE BEACH for me to lay my head for 6 weeks until I find something else!!! Here's the really nice part- They had to secure it NOW, meaning they are paying for this place 5 weeks BEFORE I get there to make sure I have a place to go when I get there.

I see all sorts of threads on how people are dissapointed, or dont see the differences in the Kiwis than in thier homeland. I sure do, this was one of the things that stood out the most when I visited there originally. Granted I understand that my new bosses are doing this purely for thier benefit in the long run, but they know I am coming reguardless. They did not need to look for a house, let alone pay for one!!

They have just emailed some pics, it is real cute :) Now they are keeping thier eyes open for a car too. I guess my point is while never meeting me, they have understood my difficulties in moving, and volunteered help virtually unselfishly to see that my transition goes smoothly. And for that I feel my first REAL taste of Kiwi kindness :)

Great story, really glad to see things are working out for you. People here are much frendlier than I am used to in LA, no doubt about that!

Great news, you must be very excited. When do you get here? Rodney Wayne are just about everywhere over here - well in the NI anyway, can't speak for the SI.

Good luck.

Well done I am really pleased for you..I only wish my own employers (City Council) were as helpful, I couldn't get time off to go and look for a house or car. They even moaned when I asked for time off to move our furniture in when the container arrived...

Hi susan

So glad they have found you a place to stay, although you'll be needing that car as the drive from Ngunguru to town is more than walking distance!!!

In fact you'll be almost passing the bottom of our road every day!!!

Off to have my hair done on Monday, I get a free treatment this time which I'm looking forward to (no idea what the treatment is though!!!)

Send us an e-mail when you get here and maybe we can meet up for a coffee - and who knows, maybe you'll be doing my hair next time!!!

Take care

Amanda

We have friends who had a very similar experiance last year. The Kiwi lady hired him via phone (they lived here in San Diego), paid for both to fly to NZ, rented a home for them, and helped file their visa papers. They are now happily residing in Taupo, and have been adopted by the boss's friends and family. ;)

Great story, and many of us have similar experiences. When my hubby went back to UK 5 weeks ahead of me I had so many dinner offers that in 5 weeks i never cooked myself a thing and didn't even use half of the offers I had! I had a hostel room at the hospital for me to sleep in, and I think i spend less than 7 days in that over the 5 week period!!!!!
I rang up a year or so ago to enquire about a course, as i was considering coming to NZ to study, the guy on the phone (one of the lecturers) offered to put me, hubby and 2 children up in his house until we found somewhere permanent : "well, we've got a four bed house and the children have moved on so we don't need the space. It will be nice to have children in the house again".
WHAT!!!!?!?!??!?!?!?!
That's one of many stories, an amazing country with amazing people!

What a lovely story - hope it all works well for you.

Must admit we met some fantastic people out there, we'd only met them for an hour through friends, and the next day they were giving us the keys to their house and Car too!!!!! Certainly wouldn't happen here!!! (i know i wouldn't give my keys to virtual strangers!!!)

Good luck susan!
