Hmm. I wonder whether over the financial year NZIS pay any heed, as they approve applications, to the range of skills the applications represents. Presumably, especially at the moment, the labor shortage is more across the board than just the few skills/jobs on the POL, OSL and FGA lists.

It'd be nice to think that they took a few folks (if there are such applicants) from many of the wide range of skills as defined on their current 'Skilled Employment' lists. Perhaps there's room for this in their 22,000 SMC quota, perhaps not.

I can see the value of having thousands of new nurses and systems engineers, etc., -- all the best to you -- but it'd be a bit top-heavy if that's the whole quota come end of year.

Just thinking out loud.

MB. The points you make are probably at least part of the reason that an updated skills list and broader range of "skills" criteria is going to come into effect from 1st December.

Timbo - yes, good point. And like others, I'm sure, I've noticed that those changes are to come into effect no later than Dec 13th, but there's nothing about no sooner. So hopefully the training (and maybe even extra-points-giving to exisiting EOIs??) is starting already.

And in case anyone thinks that, as Danny Baker would put it, my original post was tearing too much of a page from my own diary, our own prinicpal app.'s skill is at least on the FGA list (though it's non-POL). :nice1

But presumably there are many great applicants who are in none of those lists (OSL, POL or FGA). And they might well be wondering what I'm wondering.

And by the way I am aware that - until the new Amendements take effect - there are no extra points for FGA skill w/out job offer.

But as we're in that very position, I'm particularly interested to know whether the new Amendement-based generosity for no-job FGA applicants is at the back of officers' minds even now, as they process EOIs.

See how my fretting little brain works? :yes
