I've been reading that nobody gives tips to waiters/waitresses in New Zealand. I'm happy about that because I find it a bit embarrassing and I'm never quite sure how much to give. Is the lack of tipping what people on the forum have found or is it an urban myth? What are your experiences? Thnks.

It certainly doesn't seem 'expected' here at all. Tipping is more expected in Uk when you would be given the bill and a huge space to add your tip to the total.

I only tip my hairdresser now, she's embarassed about excepting it, but I hand it over with thanks and run. I do this because she is brill at what she does and historically to me, hairdressers were always on the very low paid side. Avalon and I have also recommended her on here (Suzanne from George Janis :D) because she is good.

This is very good news
We have just got back from Vancouver( More about that elsewhere) and tipping is not only the norm it is demanded and it is at least 15 to 20%.Prices in vancouver are very expensive and to then have to add on 15% makes for an expensive meal.
Good on NZ.However I am a full believer if someone deserves a tip,I will give them one

Sounds good. Thanks for confirming that this isn't an urban myth.
