I have been fortunate enough to be offered a job in NZ that involves working from home. Beacuase of this we can live absolutly anywhere in NZ we wish.
After visiting NZ last year our favourite places where Whangarei or Napier/Hastings. Can anybody give there opinions on where they think is a better place to live and why?
Cheers.

We had the choice between those two too. We chose Hawkes Bay because I fancied the drier climate and the proximity to mountains.

I spent 7 months in Hawkes Bay (Taradale/Napier) and thought it is a great place.
Access to mountains, coast and vineyards as well as great weather. People were v. friendly to me. Napier was a bit more lively - Hastings/Havelock North more relaxed (+family orientated)
Only down side being a little isolated with not much industry (- which could be classed as a good thing). I remember it being more of an agricultural area.
I am looking to return to NZ and would have chosen Napier but the work (Telecoms) is not there so am looking at Wellie instead.

For what it's worth from me I'd go for Napier area. I like Whangarei but for me Napier has the history and better climate etc. And all that wine........:cheers
