I have downloaded a IR595 form as need to apply for an IRD number before me other half starts work in NZ and have a quick question.

On the form it requests a photocopy for ID of Birth Certificate, Passport etc, but was just wondering if it has to be a certified copy or just a straightforward ordinary one??

Also where it asks for our address, should we be putting our current UK address??

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick here...but in panic mode as soooo much to sort out in the next few weeks!!!!

Thanks for your help

Hi Debs,

We sent off our IRD forms from here in NZ so can't help with the address bit, but we sent off photocopies of our Birth Certificates/Passports etc and they weren't certified, so you should be fine.

Maybe try giving them a call - they were really helpful when I called them - they'd processed our IRD forms but hadn't sent us the cards so we didn't know our numbers! So if they haven't turned up for a few weeks, give them a call.

Hope this helps,

Jodie

OK, resurrect this puppy rather than start a new thread

Where exactly do we send our completed IRD forms from the UK? Confused by all the addresses on their website!

We completed our IRD forms via the internet and that was very simply.

Good luck with the move

If you are currently overseas then it should be this address:-

Non-resident Centre
Inland Revenue
Private Bag 1932
Dunedin 9054
New Zealand

I read about a change in procedure on the IRD website (as of today.. ) regarding the application for an IRD number. Could someone double-check me on this?
The way I read it they now need you to go to the post office or AA office in person and besides the proper id you need to provide a confirmation of employment (!)
As such it would no longer be possible to apply before arrival. And don’t I need an IRD number to set up a bank account also?

damnit, looks like you are right

applications now need to be made IN PERSOn at either a post office or driving licence office. I wish I had applied for mine before now *sulks*

no you shouldn't need an IRD number to set up a bank account.

Yep - I was going through all these changes for IRD applciations last night too and it's on the "to do when I arrive" list now.

On the plus side, I opened a bank account by fax last week, and definitely didn't need an IRD number for that.

In respect of bank accounts opened without an IRD no., the bank will deduct 39% tax from any interest received until they receive your IRD no. and you advise them of the correct tax rate (assuming you not going to pay tax at 39% that is).

Thanks for the clarifications!
It's no biggie then. Just something to postpone until after we touch down.
