Hi, I am still in the UK but have a job offer in Otahuhu. A friend of mine in NZ has told me there has been some problems in the area with gangs and violence. My job will involve working quite closely with families and young children, and in schools (Speech and Language Therapist). I was just wondering if anyone has any more info/news about the area?

My OH will be working as a teacher. He will try and find work when we arrive although we have seen a vacancy for Papatoetoe High School. He may look further afield though and we will check out where to live on arrival. We have a copy of the "where to live in auckland" book which is v helpful. Just wondered if anyone has any first hand experience of South Auckland and Otahuhu as a place to work?

Hi Pootle

My family and I are renting in Otahuhu ,we are in a little area of new houses and havn't come across any trouble .My 3 kids went to schools here for several months ,their classes were made up of many children of many different countries [only a few European children ].
Papatoetoe is only a few minutes drive from Otahuhu.
