As you can tell from the title - I'm a little bit pleased!!

My hubby cooks our roast dinner every Sunday in winter & after a couple of weeks of him trying (abysmally bless!) to make yorkshires, (and leaving the mess for me to clear up!) I went into Pak n' Save this morning & they've started stocking frozen Yorkshires yummmmmmmy!!! Roll on Sunday...

Isn't it amazing when you see these little items?

Anyone would think they are the crown jewels. :D

Hang on a mo, hubby cooking dinner? What am I doing wrong? :wah

Every single one of the Kiwis I work with (admittedly there's not many of em - I seem to have found the only pharmacy in NZ populated almost entirely by Immigrants!!) has absolutely no idea what Yorkshire Puds are - I thought they were some sort of universal constant, like Pi, or Avogadro's Number!

Mind you - I like em the proper way - with nowt but raspberry vinegar...... mmmmmm.. :D:D

Smiler - He loves cooking, but lacks confidence in the kitchen. I got him to help me cook the roast & then every other week he decided he'd do it - week by week he got better (has taken a couple of years) until now he can cook a better roast than me!! So that's it - its now his job because it tastes better!! My Mum & Dad were over a couple of weeks back & my Mum was astounded at how I'd got him doing the roast better than she could cook it (now that's saying something!) and was giving my Dad some very evil looks across the dinner table!! Ha!

It may seem stupid question, but I need a volunteer to explain me what the yorkshires are.

Yorkshires will NEVER catch on here, judging by what I saw today

The lady in PnS was giving away tasters of Yorkshires. Well I wondered up for a taste and refused the Yorki that was topped with cream and jam.

Anyway I asked for one with nothing on (like my pud naked or with gravy ) and one was handed over, one that she was just about to attack with the jam jar and whipped cream.

It was cold, it was soggy and worst of all it was really greasy, I asked her if she had cooked it, or just defrosted it. She told me it had been cooked, I suggested she cooked them for longer, she just shrugged and continued to spread jam on them!

(OMG I guess I’ve spent too long with the kiwis, I wouldn’t have dreamt of telling some poor promo lady she was doing it wrong in the UK, it reminds me of the old kiwi lady I overheard in Auckland. She wondered up to a stall that was selling old kiwi pennies for $1 each to tourists, she picked one up and announced “ a dollar you want a dollar for this, do you think we are all stupid?”

What can I say, I like the kiwis!

Bob

PS anyone noticed that they are actually shipped all the way from Yorkshire, for god sake someone save the fuel and bake em here! It’s not like we have a shortage of eggs milk and flour. Any NZ bakers out there, here is a business opportunity for you (I’ll even turn up and turn the oven on for you so you can put on you pack “baked by a Yorkshireman”)

I just make my own, bit hit and miss, but they come out quite well most of the time! The real good ones look like a stetson!

I always used to be on late night munchies duty at Uni, and it was yorkies, and my colleagues smothered them in jam :roll , mind you its the same mix as pancakes, so it kind of makes sense.

Oh, and a cautionary tale, you know the frozen ones you get in the UK, that is the batter in the tin (not precooked at all?) well a guy I worked with got a call one day, his sister had been taken to hospital after trying to separate them with a sharp knife, she nearly lost a thumb!

Hi Jubjub a bit hit and miss, :laugh that’s so true, that’s why I like to buy them pre-cooked. I just don’t get why they are pre-cooked in the UK!

I must admit though that I’ve never tried them with jam, as you said “same mix as pancakes
“ so I’m sure they would be good. Not cold and greasy with jam though ehh YUK.

Bob

PS that’s the first yorki injury I’ve heard of LOL,,,,, PPS hope she was ok,,,
PPPS late night munchies at Uni :laugh :laugh and you’ll be telling your little kiwi that mummy never did that. :D
