We're going home for 8 weeks over Dec & Jan. The other day somebody said 'ooh it'll be cold' ........ what a load of nonsense ... I'll be staying in a solid brick house with central heating and double glazing, fully damp coursed and not a hint of condensation in sight ..... unlike winter in NZ !!

Can anyone remember what dat ethe UK clocks go back so that the time difference becomes 13 hours instead of the 12 hour difference once our clocks go forward?
I must stop think about the UK - the heart aching for home is creeping up on me there last few days :wah :wah :wah

The clocks change in the UK on Sat night 28th October. That seems abit late to me but I have a UK desk diary and that's the date it's telling me British Summer Time ends.
Hey listen, as somebody who suffered (literally) crippling homesickness for the first 6 or 7 months I was here (with no light at the end of the tunnel) - I can tell you that it does get better.
I can't say (for me) the pain goes away completely - maybe I've just learnt to live with it.
If you need a cyber shoulder to cry on please feel free to PM me. I seriously do believe I know what you're going through ...... been there done that.

28 Oct sounds right for the clocks changing in the UK - it's dd2's bday that day and I always remembered the clocks changed the day I got home from hospital!
I'm looking forward to daylight saving time starting so that we can have slightly darker mornings for a while - little Alex seems to think 5.30am is a good time to wake up!

thanks for the info avalon - i was wondering when the clocks change here....
nanny - we've been here only a few weeks longer than you i believe - we arrived august 8th. we have gone from highs to lows, excitement to deperate homesickness when we could quite easily have thrown it all in and found this promised departure lounge at auckland airport!! however, we are now all in agreement that we stay for 3 years and then decide where our future lies. although i am certain that we will not make old bones here (contrary to how we felt before we came out) we are going to make d*mn sure that we enjoy every moment while we are here and see and do all that we possibly can. someone said to me to remember all the dreams and hopes we had before we came out - our dreams haven't changed, our hopes haven't changed. some we will be able to realise, some we already have, some will be a bit more of a challenge. but no-one ever said it would be easy.
pm me if you want to - i think we are probably at a similar stage........ x

pint of guiness, just out of interest, how can you be sure you won't make old bones here after such a short time (must only be 5 weeks or so)? We didn't know if we were coming or going at that stage! None of my business I know - just curious. Good luck anyway!

kate - fair question and of course i can't tell the future (not sure if i'd like to be able to or not...), but it is simply a feeling i have. i was thinking about it earlier and i think that before the move i was so concerned about making sure that it would be as easy as possible for my sons to settle, i forgot to think about the impact the move would have on me !!!! however, if i am wrong i cannot think of anywhere more beautiful to make old bones. :laugh

I hadn't thought about it (still being in the UK) but I didn't realise that the clocks are put backwards and forwards in NZ?
I have to say I really hate it here in the UK. Why can't they just let everything happen at its own pace?

I think they do it pretty much everywhere PP, we are jsut waiting to see how it affects the baby sleep patterns! It was great when they went back, he went from 9pm bedtime to 7.30, hope he does not go back to 9pm again.......
