Hello everyone;
I'm considering shipping my canoe when my family moves to NZ, but I am unsure as to whether or not it will be useful to have over there. We are looking at the Christchurch area. Would there be opportunities to use this boat in that area? Are there rivers and lakes with some good fishing that one would be able to paddle?
Thanks in advance...

Hi John
If you're into canoing then it will be useful. :laugh Sorry!
I'm no expert on this but it's popular here along with kayaking. There are clubs in Welly, not sure about CC. Every morning I look out on the harbour and there are canoe's paddling round from dawn onwards. One guy is always out there, paddling along the Eastbourne side of the harbour, rain or shine.You can join clubs or just launch off by yourself.
I'd look into the cost of shipping via the cost of purchasing one here though. Try Trademe for 2nd hand ones to get some idea of cost and see if it's worth bringing or buying when you get here.

This particular boat has some sentimental value because it would remind me of Minnesota. I'm just hoping that I could find some use for it in CHCH.
The nice thing about this boat is that it would be really nice to carry into some of the back country lakes. I imagine portaging the boat up a trail to an Alpine lake and fishing for trout while surrounded by mountains. Maybe I'm just dreaming...
