Hi,
What a great forum.
I have just had a job offer out of the blue. It's in the paper industry on the North Island.
So, decision time.
We are currently living in North Wales (UK)
Is this a good move, I think so. I just have to convince my family.
What are the schools like for A levels.
And the Uni's. My daughter has just started A levels.
How long does it take to do the paper work, will they accepts us.
So many questions
Rob

Hi Rob
Welcome to the forum :cheers
Congrats on the job offer. :clap I can't help with the A levels uni thing but I'm sure someone else will.
Have you filled in your EOI on the NZIS website or even calculated how many points you have with your job offer? Are you planning on applying for a work visa or PR? Applications can move faster with job offers, but you'll need time to get your police checks and medicals too.
Have you done any research into the area you'll be moving to for schools etc? Whereabouts are you heading, I'm sure one of us mad lot can help. :D

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum. Wonder where u are in N.Wales??? We having a NW meet in Warrington on 30th (Saturday) if you are interested in meeting like minded folks - chance to ask all the questions you like, and have a meal and a beer if that takes your fancy too! I gather you got older kids, so the Wacky Warehouse won't be of interest!! :laugh
Can't help on the schools side of things as far as A levels, but the uni's can't be bad, as somebody once said, there are plenty of kiwi doctors and lawyers around.
The application side of things will be a lot quicker if you have a job offer in place. I went through the whole process of PR (permanent residence), stringing it out for as long as possible and that took 9 months, but I took the whole 4 months to put my invitation to apply for residence. And I had no job offer. But there are people on here who have had jobs and it has gone through very quick. The levellers are the medicals and police checks which obviously take their time to come through.
Drop me a pm if you need any help, or better still, if you can make it, come along to the meet - 1pm this Sat 30th, Mascrat Manor pub, Warrington.

For a Work Visa - as short as a day and as long as a month or two...

I am presuming that your job is skilled within the paper industry, in which case you have two options:
A work visa - with supporting evidence from your employer, is a very short process
Permanent residency - can take ages and needs medicals, police checks etc carried out.
You can apply for permanent residency once in NZ on a work visa, if your job is skilled.

The equivalent of A'levels are NCEA levels 2 and 3
(Level 2 being the equivalent of an AS level)
This should give you a bit of an insight....

I have two teenagers going through NCEA at the moment - sorry cant help with the Uni stuff - but there should be info on the NZQA site about what you need for university entrance.
