Hi,
We are in the process of completing our EOI application and are uncertain as to whether we should submit it now or wait until the December change in points. Any suggestions on how you think immigration is going to deal with applications received prior to this December change but not yet accepted or declined? Are they going to re-assess them or is it better to wait? We have about 120 points right now- so we qualify at this time. Is it better to get as many points as possible or just enough to make the 100 point limit?
Would love some opinions as we move forward.
Thanks,
Wendy

My own feelings on this is that they will treat the applications on the criteria that was relevant on the submission date. About 18 months ago they tried to apply the new (harder) criteria to stuff that was already in the pipeline and got a tremendous amount of critisism and legal backlash so I think they would try and avoid that happening again.
So pre Dec or later its really a case of yer pays yer money and takes yer chances.

You ask some good questions.
First, I'd certainly keep an eye on the pass mark: it was 100 again today but you don't want to miss out.
That said, your wondering about the Amendments is something I've been doing. As I've said on another thread, they are to be effective no later than Dec. 13th... but there's nothing in that particular wording to state that they can't be 'blended in' to the NZIS assessment process earlier than Dec. 13th. Now, as we know that there is an extensive training program going on to introudcue the Amendments, is it just possible that, starting about now, NZIS officers are starting to implement the new thinking? Or will they all wait until December when perhaps something in black and white on a certain date, such as a new EOI points idicator sheet, is introduced?
I guess it depends to an extent on how keen NZIS is to introduce, for example, the clarification of the Future Growth Area thinking whereby strong candidates can soon (now?) be issued PR without interview, rather than in just "exceptional cases". If NZIS really needs FGA people like this now maybe they'll start pencilling in extra points for people like that now -- whose EOIS land on their desk -- or maybe existing EOIs will miss out in favor of post-December ones. Who knows?!
Cheers,
Matt.

Thanks Matt, that is very good to know. I guess the answer to the original question is:
The enhancements mean that there are more ways that you can gain points to meet the 100-point threshold to lodge an Expression of Interest. Even if your EOI is lodged before this date, you may still be able to claim the points that will be available as a result of the enhancements.
