Anyone had any problems bringing in fishing gear (rods, reels etc) with their shipment? Would you advise that we just don't bring it or is it just certain bits that are a problem?
Cheers

This page may help:

It has details of all the precautions needed in relation to equipment that has been in contact with water.

Hi Hannah,
I brought in all my coarse fishing gear, every single item. The only thing i did was give it a good wash with jeyes fluid. As for MAF, well the guy NEVER checked the items, which really surprised me, so much so that it wasn't even on the list of items to check.
Don't leave it back in the UK, bring it.

:clap This forum is SO handy. We were just talking about this over breakfast this morning. It's Chris' birthday and I bought him (coarse fisherman 'till now) a fly tying kit and a fly rod. Chris though maybe you could get the gear professionally cleaned and obtain a certificate to prove it. Do you reckon that's necessary/possible? Don't want to risk getting it all confiscated on landing - he'd rather give me up than his gear!! (not joking!) :wah

You mention professionally cleaned. No, spend that cash on a few beers on the flight. What gear he has just give it a quick wipe over with Jeyes, and that should do the trick. As i have previously said, i brought the whole kit and kibudal, from the largest item all the way down to my hooks and weights which believe me, has had some fish mouths round them.
