We'll be there for a year. I'm looking to work in conferencing or tourism and the man is in IT. I'm leaning more towards Auckland, although Wellington & Christchurch have been mentioned.

Have you tried looking on Seek to see if there are any vacancies in the sector you want?
It's not really my area, so I can't offer much more help I'm afraid. I do know people in corporate sponsorship and event management though, if that would be an area of interest?

just wondering also---do any of you have thoughts on how difficult it may be to find a full-time job for one year?

Either you take a job on a 1 year contract, (these are about) or you take a full-time permanent position & resign after a year.
If you're looking for event management/conferencing/tourism have you considered working at Te Papa? (national museum in Wellington) - that would be a very cool place to work - lots of cultural stuff as well as your usual run of the mill events/conferences.
