Hi Group,

I thought I would share an experience with Brittania that has been playing on mind a little.

Had a few shippers around a couple of weeks back for a quote, PSS, Brittania, and GB Liners. GB Liners wrote to me beforehand and cancelled the appointment, because I lived too far away from their office. Makes me laugh, doesn't inspire confidence for international move, if they can't be bothered to drive for the quote; I am about an hour drive from M25, not exactly living in remote, rural area. I find it quite funny I am too far away when I want them to move my stuff to the other side of the world.

Everything was going well with guy from Brittania, I expected I would not have full load, but asked him how much a 20 foot container packed full would cost. He told me just over 3.5k door-to-door everything included, shipping partial load on groupage will be significantly cheaper. When he looked around he noticed I had a fair amount boxed. I told him I wanted it repacked, otherwise it would not be insured. He told me, thats going to take a long time packing and would be expensive.

When the quote came through from Brittania, it was for 3.7k for half 20foot container as groupage. Really shocked how high that was, nearly double what others have quoted. It does tie in with the figure he told me a full 20 foot container would cost, other shippers who inspected insisted on repacking these items with no mention of extra expense. I can't see why packing 160 cubic foot picking items from boxes, is any different to picking them out of a room. Nothing difficult or fragile to pack, mostly toys, books, software, games, old computer bits.

Regards,
Paul.
