In preparation for our move to NZ I’ve been really enjoying researching various food related things and in the process have come across several websites that may be of interest to other food obsessed types like me! It’s a bit of a mishmash but I hope there’s some stuff of interest in among it all. If anyone’s got any more websites to add then please do.

Cooking in NZ
http://www.foodlovers.co.nz
Good collection of recipes, info on farmers markets, good forums on food, wine, eating out etc and a shop for specialist food goods.

http://www.forestandbird.org.nz/bestfishguide/bestfishguide.pdf
Ranking of NZ fish based on management of the stocks and environmental concerns

http://www.seafood.co.nz/plate/
Seafood industry website – section on cooking and eating NZ fish. Interesting stuff elsewhere on the website with their take on sustainable fishing etc.

http://www.cuisine.co.nz
NZ food magazine – the website has recipes and restaurant reviews

http://www.vegetables.co.nz
The NZ vegetable and potato growers association – loads of detailed info on different vegetables (including some I’d never heard of!) and recipes.

http://www.foodshow.co.nz
For anyone who like me is going to miss the UK’s annual BBC Good Food Show

Eating out
http://www.dineout.co.nz
Reviews of literally hundreds of restaurants across NZ

http://www.menus.co.nz
Sample menus from a wide range of restaurants in Auckland and Wellington

Supermarkets
http://www.woolworths.co.nz
Online shopping from Woolworths – great for comparing whats available, prices etc.

http://www.moorewilson.co.nz
Store addresses and opening hours plus some very basic info on what they sell

http://www.newworld.co.nz
Links to each New World store with special offers info plus recipes, food safety stuff and general info about the company.

Good list, thanks! One addition I found the other day... Skazka European Deli (http://www.skazka.co.nz/) in Auckland and Wellington. The nice thing about their site is they sell goods online and ship throughout NZ. German, Italian and Polish imports, plus Dutch and others too. No UK though.

Thanks for posting the link to the NZ 'best fish guide'. We see orange roughy imported from New Zealand at the grocery quite often & were wondering how sustainable the fisheries were there.

I found an archive of recipes/articles that I bookmarked but haven't had a chance to look at yet: "Kiwi Kitchen with Pat Churchill":

TriGirl - Foodtown in the same group as Woolworths, but considerably cheaper for excatly the same produce.

I use DineOut loads, it's generally pretty reliable in the reviews.
If you eat out a lot, as well as cook, then it's worth getting an Entertainment Book. These contain discount vouchers for loads of restaurants and cafes. They are sold through charities and social groups to raise funds.

Thanks for the list Trigirl. Just to add another supermarket to the your list, ie. www.paknsave.co.nz (http://www.paknsave.co.nz/). PaknSave is in the same group as New World but it claim to have the cheapest groceries and they do give out fuel discount vouchers :clap based on your purchase.

And for the busy moms you may want to take a look at www.foodinaminute.co.nz (http://www.foodinaminute.co.nz/). Good for weekends or something easy to cook :D .

Other food sites I like are:

http://www.naturallyorganic.co.nz/ - for fruit and veg box delivery, seasonal and organic

http://www.noshgourmet.com/index.html - a new gourmet food market in Auckland (I believe they have plans to go elsewhere too)

http://www.taste.co.nz/ - Kiwi food magazine, a little more lowbrow than Cuisine

(Dish is another magazine I tend to buy.)
