I am a New Zealand citizen and my husband is a U.S. citizen.
We will be applying for PR for him in New Zealand under the
Partnership category.
Our question is:

Is there a quota system under the Partnership category?

Cheers,
Suzanne and Ron.

Not sure what you mean by a quoata system. I came to NZ via the partnership category and never across any quotas.

in fact, the entire application from start to finish was very easy and straightforward. Please feel free to PM me if you need more info ont he partnership category.

They have announced the abolition of the quota for partnership application. I'm not sure when this takes affect, but it is of little consequence in any case as partnership applications are prioritised and never meet the quota.

Thank you for your replies Diny and anna c.

Diny...There is a Family quota system, but I never thought that would apply to the Partnership Category. Just wanted to be sure as my husband was sure the quota system also applied to the Partnership Category. I am sure it will be straightforward and hopefully a quick process for us also.

anna c...We have heard there are changes to the Partnership Category going to be announced later this year by the Minister of Immigration and that they come into force July 2007. We believe this is to try and encourage "Ex Pats" and their partners/children back to New Zealand.

Cheers,
Suzanne and Ron.

Ha !!! That just goes to show how much attention I paid then. As long as you can produce all the usual documents they askfor I can't see you having too many problems. I'm yet to hear of anybody being refused PR who has applied via the partnership family category ....(that's not to say it's never happened, I've just never heard of anybody having bad luck).

Hi there, welcome also!
I am also in the process of applying via the partnership route from the UK and thought everything was going OK until I phoned to check on how my police check was proceeding and was told they had never received it. I had collected the form from the police station, filled it in on the spot to avoid delays and handed it back in for processing. It obviously never made it from there. I spoke to a very helpful officer in the data protection unit who deal with the applications and she is trying her best but I will still have to wait probably another 40 days! I have booked our flights to leave 9th Jan and feel myself growning more anxious every day! My advice would be to get this piece of paperwork dealt with first and get it out of the way.Arranging medicals was very straightforward. I phoned the NZIS in London to see if I could send all the rest of the paperwork and follow on with this but they said they would probably send it all back to me if there was something missing. So its just a waiting game for now. Otherwise looking forward to the move when it comes!
Good luck

do you have a receipt for it? if so they are required by law (data protection act) to provide you with the info within 40 days of your original request.

Yes I still have the receipt. I passed on the details to the data protection office and she said they would try and get it processed asap. Because my usual address is in Scotland they have to process that before forwarding on to be checked nationally. It is such a pain. I think the old adage is true that if you want something done, you should do it yourself. I would have been better just taking it away and posting it myself but because I thought the police would probably have a means of doing it quicker , I just left it with them. Anway, hopefully it won't be too long. Thanks for the reply.

I applied in NZ as well and brought my police check with me. As has been said, it's very straightforward and easy to do, especially when you're here already :)
