Hi folks, just dropping you a line on my situation...I'm both over-joyed and very worried.
Today I received my offer of full time emplyoment from the company in Wellington. This is great! Except....they didn't put a duration on the offer of employment...
My plan is to apply for a work visa. The Washington DC consulate office's checklist says I need (one of many things):
An original written invitation or offer of employment which must supply the following information:
- Name, residential and mailing addresses, telephone number, facsimile number of the employer.
- Job title or designation.
- Type of work and responsibilities of the job.
- Details of maintenance, accommodation and repatriation. (If return airline ticket is not being provided
by employer, copy of itinerary or ticket must be submitted.)
- The salary offered and the hours/days of work.
- The position offered is temporary. (Must stipulate the length of stay e.g. 1 month, 6 months etc)
- and if applicable, what effort the employer in New Zealand has made to recruit local
residents/citizens.
Do you think this means that my offer letter must stipulate a duration? I plan on residing there permanently (and working through the process of gaining residency). I doubt I can just say "Oh yeah I'm staying a year...".
Also I'm going to need to provide a medical exam for my wife and I. Wife in good health, a little higher than normal BMI. Me on the other hand, 39 BMI and my avg blood pressure is 130/90 (I'm on beta blocker type medication). I'm so scared....but I'll be bringing a year's supply of medication AND the employer stipulated insurance coverage of me and my spouse...so maybe they'll accept that. I've read that the primary concern with medicals are things like HIV, AIDS, TB, diabetes etc.
Anyway, getting our rush passports done on Monday then we'll be applying for the work visa in a couple weeks when they arrive....should I send my wife's spousal application in the same packet as mine or delayed by a day?
Happy and worried!
Justin
