David with a dream
30th September 2006, 07:20 AM
Hi, haven't been on line for quite some time as we have had a lot to deal with. Sadley during our long hot summer I became unwell which resulted in me being off work for about a month of which two weeks I was unable to get out of bed. Lesley was a real trooper sorting out the house and looking after the kids. As you may remember we did manage to sell our house but due to my health we had to pull out, it was all becoming to much.
Well this is where I cut to the chase, because of my health we have had to admit that despite the 'blue stickers' being in our passport we have had to put a hault to it all. I can't really talk about my health as it is a personal problem but I have been advised by my doctor that to take the massive step would not be a good idea.
When this news was sinking in it was very haed to take, all the planning all the hard work was going to come to nothing. Again Lesley was a real rock picking me up and doing just about every thing.
I am now on medication and feeling a lot better but I am going to be taking the medication for some time. I guess if you are unwell family and friends keep you going and more importantly are there for all of us.
It's funny how things in life change and I guess I will have to change and start looking for new goals in life (at the moment) although we do hope to head to NZ for a holiday next year.
The kids have move on and are now looking forward to the arrival of Otis, a six month old Patterdale Terrier we are collecting from the RSPCA tomorrow. Lesley is enjoying her new job and looking forward to seeing more of our close friends. And as for David with a dream well I still have my dream but at the moment I am taking a day at a time and enjoying being with people I love.
I will never say never but because of what has happened to us it's a time for family and just enjoying what we have.
The hottest summer since records began and I'm ill in bed - grrrrrreat. But I'm here and will live to fight another day, I may have lost one battle but am winning another and the war my friends will be ours for the taking (but it wont be over for Christmas).
To all of my friends I have met on the forum good luck to you all and if I have taken one thing out of the last few months it's be happy for to day and let tomorrow look after it's self.
I will be dropping in on the forum from time to time to see how you are all doing. So it's good bye for now from David with a dream............

Hi David

Take care of yourself, enjoy having family and friends around and enjoy your holiday here next year. As the others have said, NZ's not going anywhere, the move can happen later - or you can keep coming back for hols and have the best of both worlds.

Hi David, Lesley & family

I was stunned when I read your post and just want you to know I am thinking of you. I didn't come on to the forum for a couple of weeks as I had a small operation myself (but hasten to add nothing compared to your health problems). :cheers Here's to a speedy recovery. I'm sure this will be made easier by the fact that you have a wonderful supportive family who love you dearly.

Take care and hope to see you on the forum from time to time.

Hi David & Lesley
Sorry to hear your news, but pleased that you are making the right decisions for your health at this time. Emigration is stressful at the best of times, and if you are poorly I imagine it would be hell.
I do believe that our decisions in life are usually the right ones, if only because they are often the only choices open to us at the time. You will weather this storm and hopefully other choices will become open to you later.
All the best, take care of yourself and family
Best wishes, hannah

David, Lesley & Family,
So sorry to hear that the move can no longer happen for you but your health is far more important, particularly as such a move is so stressful even when in the best of health. You sound very positive about your future in the UK and don't seem to have let the change in your plans affect your state of mind. You really are an inspiration in the way you are so optimistic even when things are tough! :yes

And just think you get to have all the things we still long for, family, friends, historical buildings, shopping (ok, probably just a girl thing), gravy granules :p aahhh, the list is endless.......

All the very best to you all, I'm sure you'll be here again one day - even just for a holiday!

Really sorry to hear your news, our thoughts are with you and your family and we hope your health improves soon. The main thing is that you ARE going to get better and where better to do that than with your family and friends in the UK. :yes

Who knows what the future brings... but all the best in whatever you find yourself doing :nice1

A BIG thank you to all the kind words it was really up lifting, and Stevie D didn't even mention the 3 - 0 drubing we got by the blue noses :wah .
We have decided to go ahead with the house say as we feel it would be a good thing to move back to the village where we set off from on this epic journey. Also we did buy this place as an investment and as we have made a few $$ at least that is a big posative.
The wee terrier (Otis) arrived on Saturday moring and is already higher in the house pecking order than me (in a house of five I am now 5!). The kids love him and although I have only walked him twice it feels such a posative and up lifting feeling. The simple things in life are the best every thing else is just padding.
Once again thank's for all of your warm words it means such a lot. Like I said I will continue to drop in on the forum and look forward to hearing all your news from the land of no bisto gravey granules (had some tonight on my dinner aah bisto!).

You guys take care and be happy.......David
