Things are moving forward for us :clap a job offer came through, we have temporary housing through a friend of a friend who will be traveling overseas and needs a house sitter just about the time we arrive, and as soon as we hear back from NZIS we'll be buying tickets - hopefully for a late november departure.

We were wondering if any one is shipping a container and has a bit of extra room? All our stuff is packed now and takes up about 5x4x4 feet of room stacked in my parent's garage (they're so kind to us!) and we could add it to a container at any time in the next few months. We're located near Portland Oregon.

On the same token - anyone have any advise about shipping a small amount like this?

Congrats on finding a job and housing! I am already here so I can't share a container but we did not bring much stuff over either - and they prorated the container space for us. Might be something to consider.

Don't know if you have done overseas moves before or a shipping company you want to use but I had a bunch of quotes over the Internet I was going to look into further and luckily found a site called www.movingscam.com. It is an excellent site that tells you the companies to watch out for (like all the ones I had received internet quotes from), how to nail down a quote, and lots of other helpful moving info. I still felt really uncomfortable paying everything up front but everyone required it.

We used Rainier Overseas and they were very professional and only one piece of glass (clock face) broken in the whole shipment. It was 3 weeks late but I think unfortunately that is not uncommon.

Thanks Montana. I'll check Rainer Overseas. I already moved everything once a few months ago, and I need all the suggestions I can get to get myself motivated on this next round of shipping ;)

We are using APX freight forwarders and they do partial or full containers from Portland, OR to NZ. Their # is (305)597-0258. We have a full 20ft container leving for Auckland on Oct 12-so can't tell you how great they are (or aren't!) yet. Will let you know how things go. Feel free to PM me if you want more info.
