Hi! Just wondering if anyone has had to make a claim with Letton Percival, and if they we're easy to deal with? I'm making sure before I use their services that if something happens to our furniture, I'm not going to have any hassles! Any comments appreciated!

Hi there,

We nearly went with LP but backed out at the last minute and went with Crown (who I managed to get reduced rates with).

If we did have to make a claim, I sure it'll be much easier than having to call back to the UK to sort things out. Also, LP charge an excess of £100 or 1% of the value, which ever is greater. If we did have to make a claim, LP wouldn't work out any cheaper than Crown, plus we're getting more comprehensive cover with Crown (mould, mildew, sets & pairs, electrical & mechanical derangement).

It's more money up front, but at the end of the day, insurance is a gamble.... you'll probably not need it, but the cost is worth the peace of mind for us.

Hi Lake Isle

We had to claim with LP and they were fab. Sent an assessor out the next day to list everything and take pics etc. Although I had taken pics as things were being unpacked and found to be mashed. :wah Our car, motorbikes and other house stuff was damaged.

He completed his report quickly and emailed it back to LP with my estimates for repairs. The LP guy, Brian I think, even emailed from home when their system was down.

The whole thing was painless and I found them to be really helpful before during and after our claim. Not 'we've got your money and run' kinda thing. They paid out in GBP and sent the cheque to my bank for me too.

HTH.

Haven't had to claim with LP but am currently going through a claim with the agents of Doree Bonner's insurers, which I think is the same policy that a lot of shippers use - 3% (before haggling) including pairs and sets, mould and electrical derangment cover. The insurance is with Willis and their claims people are Cunningham Lindsey. Painful and Petty would be the best words I could use to describe them. Basically they are trying to haggle on everything and not offer full value of the claims - things like offering 25 pounds for a set of 2 wireless phones when they where bought for 120 and insured for 80. That is just one example of many. I have threatened legal action (after 15 emails) so will see if they pay up now, but would not recommend them at all. :no
