If we get approved is their a timeframe to move to New Zealand , or can you get approved and move 1 , 2 , 5 years later ?

Thank you

There is a time frame

When you send in your ITA you have the choice of either sending in your passports or certified copies.

If you send certified copies, and with hold your passports, you then have six months from the 'approved in principal' dated letter to send in your passports and the migrant levy.

You then have 12 months from the date the visa goes in your passport to activate it - (ie travel to New Zealand) - and this is everyone on your application not just the principal applicant.

So you can string out the 'time frame' to a total of 18 months from the date you are approved! :nice1

Hope that helps!

Can you then just goto NZ and register (like a vacation) then go back to europe and move permanently a year or two later ?

You can do that as you get a Returning Residents Visa ("RRV") in your passport which lasts for two years. However, you will eventually want them to "upgrade" that to an indefinite RRV which they won't do if you've only spent a short time in the country during your first two years of residence.

That probably doesn't make much sense but we went through the whole process in detail in this thread (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5998) which should explain the process (skip to Avalon's post near the end for the definitive answer).
