:) Hi Everyone
Were planning to move to the Tauranga area, early 2007 - however their do not seam to be many people on the forum from the area or planning to move there?
I hope their is not somthing bad about the area I don't know about or should know about?
We've only been to the Top 10 in Papamoa on holiday in the past and I would love to find out more to the area before we arrive in NZ.
- OH already has a job offer (Plumber) in/on the Mount. Also 2 boys 6 & 2. Would love to get in contact with anyone in a simular situation, who may be able to pass on any advise to us.
If their is anyone out there in the area - Please say Hi! - I don't bite?

Hi Jo
Welcome to the forum. We live in Rotorua which is about 50 mins away from Tauranga and the Mount. I can't tell you much about Tauranga but the Mount is a lovely place, the beaches are fab :nice1 nice shopping and loads of beach side cafes.
Good luck with the move and I am sure someone on here will be able to tell you some more about Tauranga.

Hi Jo
Sorry can't help you much with the Tauranga query (have done a few hols there - brilliant! :nice1 - but don't know anything about living there) but welcome anyway!
Was interested that your OH is a plumber - mine too :D was wondering if you're going in on the skilled migrant list? we're going to the expo in London next week but interested to know how you guys have gone about it & any advice you may have. Does your OH do commercial or domestic plumbing?
Sorry to be such a bore :roll & only ask about work but I'm sure you'll all love Tauranga & the Mount - very family orientated from what I do know :yes

Hi Jo,
I'm actually looking for about the same information as you, but maybe this helps a bit.
We are already in New Zealand, Waikato, but my employer gives us now the opportunity to move to the Te Puke area. We have visited a few places there 2 weeks ago to get an idea of life in the Bay, including the Mount and Tauranga. I must say that it is a nice area. The city was great for shopping, great cafes, the beaches were fab and safe for children, surrounding areas outside the city were also very nice and of course the sun was shining. When our son had a medical problem, we had to visit the local Te Puke Medical Centre as visitors. When we told the doctor we were living in the Waikato, the man answered "Well then, welcome to the sunny Bay of Plenty". That's when we decided to move :D
However I do think that one can't get a good idea of real life there by just visiting the place. Therefore some input from a person already living there would be great. If we explain to our Waikato Kiwi friends that we are getting this opportunity, they wonder why we stil hesitate.
I haven't had many response to my forum posts from people already living in the Tauranga area. So no, I don't think there are many people on this forum actually living there, which makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the place, or is it just hard to get good jobs there :uhoh
We will most likely move as we are already looking for properties in Te Puke, so I might become a real life experienced forum member one day and share my experience with you.
Good luck,
Manny

Just back from atrip to N Z ,went over to do a recon around the Bay Of Plenty Area.
Got a job over in Whakatane but will still be loking in the papamoa area I also have stayed in the Top 10 there and walked along that beach ,that's why the place we're loking at (Milford in the park , www.generations.co.nz,) land and house package is a 5min walk to the beach ,and ranges in price from £90,000 to £120,000, which is great as the houes prices over in N Z seem to rise day by day .
I've stayed there a few time's and found it to be a graet place with a good variety of pepole , the only problem i found was that when i walked from one pub to the next ,the next one was 8 km away ,so i really enjoyed my next pint .
Good hunting from

Hi Family Maidment
Tauranga is a great place to live. It is one of the fastest growing areas of NZ so your hubby won't be short of work as new sub-divisions are going up all over the area. This in turn is pushing up house prices.
The work front can be a bit of a problem. Tauranga has long been a retirement town and is now becoming the sort of place where folks from Auckland have second homes. This means that there isn't the kind of employment opportunities that befit a place as big as Tauranga. It's also known as '$10 Tauranga' due to the relative low wages in comparison to the rest of NZ. Most kids on leaving school move away from TGA because of the lack of job opportunities.
That said, the weather is usually great. You've got the mount and Papamoa on yout doorstep. Not far from the Coromandels and Auckland and I would say if I could pick anywhere in NZ to live then it would be Tauranga.
My only problem was I was in too much of a hurry to get settled and went chasing a job that would pay something comparable to what I was earning in the UK and ended up in Wellington. My biggest regret is leaving Tauranga.
