we're in perth (so nearly there)...

hi there, we arrived in perth safe and sound after a fairly uneventful flight. we arrived at heathrow in great time on the saturday and had no problem checking in (ground staff for malaysia airlines were lovely) and we were told that we had got it right staying right by the hotel the night before as the traffic was quite bad that day. went straight through security (didnt want to risk anything what with all the security malarky) and cruised through with minimal cueing time. it was at this time that i remembered i hadnt asked to be put in specific seats and was kicking myself! as i didnt want to be in the middle block on the plane. well it was grand cause we got on and discovered that we had the window and middle seat of a block of three (i got the window) so i was chuffed. settled in for our flight in which i got no sleep (i can never do much more than doze on flights). was annoyed at my food (im a vegie but it seemed that their food was all vegan which kind of restricts what they serve) and was hungry most of the time but what can you do? the boyfriend was very good sharing what he could of his. inflight ent. was good and there was a good choice of movies/sport etc to watch. just before arriving in KL we heard an announcement about the fact that malaysia takes a very strict stance on drug trafficking which if convicted could lead to corporal punishment which freaked me out a tad!! not that i had anything to hide i might add

got to KL, malaysia at about 8am in the morning and quickly found our gate..as we were so organised in london, the lady at check-in had got us our boarding pass for KL too which rocked, i was so pleased that we had one less thing to worry about there.KL airport is very well signed and has signs in malaysian and english..also has some sort of foodcourt id say cause i saw people drinking starbucks and eating BK.had a quick wander round to stretch the legs then went to the gate where we went through a mini security check again and waited to board the plane. we were in luck this time with seats as well as the plane we were on was very similar to the london-malaysia one except that instead of three seats by the windows, there are two and we had those. i was a happy bunny. (yes, the small things make me happy). we got served lunchnot long after take off and they had no vegie option, but the omlette only had a sausage with it which i gave to the boyf and had a delicious omlette with asparagus (i could live on it!) and pumpkin. i think the fact that i was starving helped with the fact that the food looked like heaven. and it had cheese! (not like the vegan stuff on the last flight..) i love cheese :D

arrived in perth after a 5 hour flight (on which i slept).richie said that going down the west coast of aussie was like flying over mars because most of it was desert with very red sand. my family lived 1.5 days drive north of perth when they first arrived and was hard to imagine how they lived in a desert!! clear blue skies and a balmy 25 degrees i think it was...it had been warmer earlier in the day but cooled down a wee bit. having never been to aussie before (had never travelled outside of nz before i went to ireland) its pretty cool but it is kind of similar to nz!! (never thought id say that! im a traitor) similar shops (jay jays, jeanswest and same food outlets eg muffin break :nice1 ) and a general laidback feeling. the malls are way better than the ones in ireland in my opinion too!! :D

feeling a bit wierd about not being in ireland anymore as for three years it was home, and although i felt homesick a lot of the time i was fairly settled. im going to miss popping over to england and scotland for wee hol's and gigs and stuff and ryanair flights to france. ive had it lucky in ireland cause i got to do a lot of great things (especially over the summer) and i dont know is it me seeing with rose tinted glasses (or green, in irelands case) but id say ill be back over there one day..just need to get home out of my system i think,go to college and then see where the wind takes us.im lucky enough to be an irish passport holder and richie has PR for NZ so we can live in either continent so to speak.

so yeah, perth is fun..great seeing the family (though, as i predicted we were biting heads off a wee bit after a couple of days!) and cant wait to be back in NZ..but dreading it too cause i have to get back to "real life" eg getting student loans and finding work for the summer.sigh.

hope you all dont mind me rambling on a bit, just thought id post to let you know about my flight (would thorougly recommend holidaying in perth on the way, even if its to break up the flight. airnz fly straight from perth to auck so you dont have to fly to sydney or melbourne first which is crappy) and ill post something more "relevant" in a couple of weeks time when im back in new zulund ;) (gotta get my accent back!!)

ps forgot to add that we have little to no jetlag. so pleased we stopped off here and only had to travel 18 hours in one go..malaysia and western australia are in the same time zone also which helps. just thought id add that if people, like me, didnt want to arrive in NZ too jetlagged.

thanks :) we're in a great position actually, seeing as we've just discovered that my bf can get citizenship sooner rather than later (ie, 2 years not 5! huzzah!) :D

sorry, i didnt mean to offend you. i meant it as a positive thing cause you'll get to come from a cold UK to a lovely hot aussie where you can sit outside at a bar in the evenings and try not to be to horrible to your friends when theyre txtng you the icky weather back home (speaking from experience :D)

again, i apologise cause didnt mean to offend as i think good weather is a positive thing! just can be a shock to the system sometimes

I was probably being a bit sensitive :o Thank for the apology :)

We had bought tickets for November but had to change them and in the midst of the dilemma and the stress of changing tickets I forgot to factor in the heat and I have been a little worried about it as this is our first holiday in four years :( Friends in Perth tell me it's quite a bit cooler on the south coast (Albany and Esperance) and not humid so I'm hoping it will be lovely and not too hot to enjoy.
