Hello all

Have only posted once before - so you probably don't remember me. We are in Perth, leaving for NZ November 9th (Peter is a kiwi) We have just had the house proceeds deposited into our bank a/c and for some reason I am having a panic attack!! Are we doing the right thing - sometimes I think what am I doing leaving most of our family in Perth?? Can anyone please make me feel positive about this move??

Thanks Jackie :wah

Where are you going in NZ? We are in Palmerston North and we love the life we have here....18mths in and we are pigs in clover. I have heard that some people feel isolated in Perth..I know we are here aswell but we are close together here...Kilometer wise I mean. I have also heard people say there is a bit of a thing about poms in oz...not so here from our point of view. Depends what you want..I know someone who's lived in both but prefers Perth. Perth does sound amazing but I dont think I could live there. NZ is laid back, friendly, unpressurized..(in Palmy anyway), spacious (and Perth isn't...lol). What do you think NZ will bring to your table??? Keen to know..also about your thoughts on life in Perth please.

Hello Felix

Perth: Have lived here most of my life (lived in Ireland from 3-13yrs old) Yes I suppose it is isolated but I guess I have got used to that!! It really is a lovely place - really clean but I have never adjusted to the heat!! Our house has a concrete pad roof (weird I know) and when the days are constantly 36 degrees and over its AWFUL!!! We live 7kms from the city and are close to everything you need incl airports etc but I guess its never really felt like home.

NZ: Peter is a kiwi - I have been there 3-4 times and have always enjoyed it (reminds me of my upbringing in Ireland I suppose) We want to have the nice green piece of land and we cant really get that here in Western Australia (prices down south of here are through the roof) and its really really dry here now - nothings green anymore!)

So even though most of our friends & family have said "what are you doing moving over there"? we still feel like we need our "seachange" . It just seems that today I have had a panic attack.

I guess if it doesnt work out we could always come back (or I could cast my mind back to the endless hot nights I have had to endure here)

Hope that answers your question!!

Jackie

By the way, we are thinking of settling in a little place called Katikati near Taurunga.

I think that there is a bit of "friendly" one upmanship between NZ and Oz, and this maybe why they are a bit shocked about your choice. Personally, I wouldnt be able to handle the heat of Perth either, nor would my OH. He is a site welder and I think the heat would kill him...........all trussed up in leathers (overalls and gloves that is) I think you are right to give it a go, and its only natural to have moments of doubt.

We all have had our moments of complete panic and doubt! It's completely normal you are feeling the way you are. But don't worry, it will be allright! :nice1

I go from sheer blind panic to giddy excitement several times a day and I haven't even got PR yet!

If it doesn't work, at least you tried it. It takes a lot of guts and good for you for getting out there and doing it.

I totally empathise with you!

Now our flights are booked (and that was a stomach churning experience booking one way flights!!) I have a million lists all over the place, trying to work methodiclly through things, but it just isn't happening!!

My emotions are all over the place (and it isn't even PMT week!!! :D ) don't know if I should laugh cry or chuck up half the time!!

But everyone assures me this is normal!!! :roll

I just keep having a few minutes on here to read old posts and see that I am doing ok, and others before me have felt just the same - doesn't make it any easier, but at least you know you're not losing it!!

I panicking about selling the house, I guess it is normal to panic about things in this rollercoaster ride called emigration. But one day we will be able to sit back and look at it all and wonder what all the fuss was about - we hope!!

Don't worry, panic is normal. Just try and ride it out (that's rich coming from the world's worst worrier :laugh ) but you get my drift.

You're bound to feel odd right now, but not long to go and you'll be so busy when you get here, you'll probably forget your name and where you live.

Chin up. :cheers

Just remember, nothing has to be permanent - if you hate it, try somewhere else. But I'm sure you won't! And nowhere on the planet is more than a day or so away, so if you really really need to see the people you miss, it can be done. And it doesn't sound like you had a real bond with your house, so good riddance to it I say!
