I have a few questions to ask any help would be really appreciated

1. Although we are not taking much funiture we do have alot of electrical items, now is it worth taking out the extra insurance.

See our problem is we dont wanna get over there and find when we plug in our tv/computer it doesnt work. Pss have said its not worth it John masons said for the amount of eletrical items we have its def worth it ????

2. What are the quarantine costs and how long do they take ??

If it's any help the only problem I had was inside the computer a plastic cover shifted and a wire came loose which took 2 mins. to fix. But insurance is always up to you at the end because it is a gamble which to go for.
Sorry I am not sure what you mean in question two.
Hope this of help.

I haven't got my container yet so only plugged a few things in. New PC cables are about $15 each and plugs about $6. Electrical items are alot more expensive in relation to your salary.

Just received invoices for shipping/storage: -

Quarantine clearance inspection & handling including supervision - $350
Storage handling (one off cost) - $526.80
Monthly storage for 20ft container - $340

I can't advise you if it's worth insuring that kinda stuff, only you can make that decision. But have you looked around for another insurer, like Letton Percival and see what they quote for? We were insured to the hilt and glad of it.

You can bring a UK extension thingy wee and put a NZ plug on the end. Thats the cheap way of doing it and replace with NZ plugs as and when. diforsyth is correct in that these things can be expensive in relation to your salary, especially in one go. :wah

In our case, darling OH wanted to replace all our UK plugs, so we bought out the whole of Bunnings stock of plugs at least 3 times. They were the cheapest place we found to buy them. Plugs there were about $3.50 - $4.00 and worth it in the long run for us. We're stopping here so might as well swap over at some point, sooner rather than later.

Quarantine costs will surely vary with what you are shipping out so can't help there, sorry.
