Hi,
I've just read a slightly disturbing post.
I quote:
Without a job offer this EOI is one of around 400 EOI that have not yet been allocated to staff.
We have an additional 100 with job offers which are being given priority ie we are being allocated these first.
We have NO idea how long it will be before we get to the EOI's without job offers. Staff members are guessing and I stress guessing 6-9 months because it is mandatory that EVERY single applicant needs to be interviewed as part of the application process.

whoa, what is that, Steve?
Each applicant needs to be interviewed? Only if you don't have a job offer, or all PR applicants?

Hi Steve,
Where did you get this info from?

Having had a good look through the NZIS blurb, the way I read it is...
If you DON'T have a job offer, you are interviewed by a NZIS case officer who assesses your ability to get a job, settle long term in NZ, contribute to society, etc. I suppose they will look at things like your job, family in NZ, likely earnings and the like.
They then either issue an open two year work visa, or offer you PR...depending on their mood that day. :laugh
I suppose that lots of applicants without job offers=lots of interviews=significant delays. After all,it must be sensible to prioritise those applications with job offers, as there are local companies waiting to get them over to NZ and they won't wait forever.
I saw a post somewhere which gave the number of NZIS case officers in various places around the world...not that many, so it is not suprising that they are feeling overwhelmed now that their political masters have relaxed the points!!
For those without a job offer...I don't think Steve's info raises any long-term problems (apart from the fact that a visa/PR is not a formality, but then again, they are having trouble filling quotas at the moment!); it might just take longer that you expected for them to get round to dealing with your application.
So perhaps not a good idea to put the house of the market just yet....!

Hi,
Someone on another forum (!) asked NZIS how their EOI was doing.
Selected on the last pick I think.
That was the reply from NZIS http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-012.gif
So, as far as I know, only for EOIs selected with no job offer.
I seem to be quoting these to links all the time, these days:
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/nzis/operations_manual/6425.htm
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/nzis/operations_manual/6426.htm
I not sure about the 6-9 months guess !
Cheers
Steve
