Looked all over the forum but no sign of anything related to my 'first love' - that'd be music then, Nick! Can I start the ball rolling then? Simple question - if you have a favourite band or artist, who is it? Only after I have had the first response will I reveal my abysmal taste in music. Go on!!! Nick D. X.

For me it's got to be the dearly departed Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Oh I have so many, but Rush are on my big all time fave lists, coupled with Deep Purple, Zepp, AC/DC etc...
But I have a real eclectic mix when it comes to music, but can't stand all this techno c***!

My hubby's the big music fan between us, he seems to like everything from Gangsta Rap to Classical. His currents are Mars Volta, Coheed and Cambria, and AFI.
I'm picky. :p My favs are Offspring, NIN, Depeche Mode, Ministery, Oingo Boingo, Chemical Brothers...to name a few.
We both love the Beatles, and we both have Devo in our CD players right now. ;)

Not in NZ :no We're in Northern San Diego, California, but we'll be out to NZ in March ( our good friends in Auckland are having a baby) and hope to move to NZ by May, if we can get all our ducks in a row. :nice1
I used to listen to Rush; I went to one of their concerts when I was 14, lots of lazers. I'd have to say my fav band of that "era" is Judas Priest, though.
When we were in NZ we went to Real Groovy on Cuba St in Wellington and shopped for a couple hours. Great store! (Also went for coffee after at Fidels, man that was the best Latte I have ever had!) We're really glad that there are great music stores and venues in NZ, just another thing to love!

I'll have to show this post to hubby - he's a huge Rush fan and has seen them many times. I do think Geddy Lee sings like he's been pinched in the goolies though.... He reckons our son Alex was named after Alex Lifeson, but I'm not so sure. Shazanick, I'll get him to do the quiz when he gets back from work. 3 is 2112! I know 4a - that'll be Xanadu! Is 1d Roll the Bones? Oh and 2 is Toronto! Need to think about the others (and I'm not even the fan!)

Hello Everyone!
Interesting to see where you all are. We're still in the UK (Coventry to be precise - the Florence of the Midlands!) but leave (at last) on the 27th of this month. Headed for my sister in law's to begin with @ Whangaparaoa just north of Auckland. Hopefully will get a job offer after three interviews here of late. Went for a great one at Rangitoto College on North Shore City last week & they have just asked for references so I'm feeling positive about that.
Great that so many people have contributed here - thought I'd be NZ's only Rush supporter but that appears to be a nonsensical notion.
Kate & Craig- you got 9 out of 12 on the quiz. Well done!! The lyrics that you passed on were from these songs;
4b. Bravado (from Roll The Bones)
4d. Middletown Dreams (from Power Windows)
4e. Test For Echo (strangley enough from the album, er, Test For Echo!)
Hope that puts you out of your misery!
Nick.

Its gotta be Guns un Roses. Each and every one of theirs are classic's. To think November Rain took 9 years in the making:yes Along with G&R i am very much into the Heavy Metal scene from the 70's and 80's. Didn't pay too much attention to the c%"* that was flying around in the 90's.

Craig/Kate,
I'm misleading you there. 4b is from 'The Pass' from Presto. Since you put 'pass' against that one I will give you a half mark there! How very generous of me!
Cheers!

Have "discovered" some great NZ bands here too - Fat Freddy's Drop / Bic Runga / Pluto / Goldenhorse / Salmonella Dub and Shapeshifter. :nice1
Yup. All great NZ bands. If Bic Runga was from somewhere else, she'd probably be huge. The Finn brothers are pretty good too. Che Fu and Scribe are alright.
My favourite non-NZ bands: Neko Case, Apples in Stereo, Flaming Lips, Pulp, Belle & Sebastian.

I didn't know Shapeshifters were kiwis! Saw them in London at South West Four and they were fantastic. I was disappointed they were only on for a short set.

Damn, I missed my little quiz!!!! Just logged on to find the thread mushrooming.
Yes, Rush, and Geddy does sound like his goolies have been kicked, but he is a heck of a bass player. Like all the old faves, Floyd, Talking Heads, (and now David Byrne! ) GNR, The Who, too many to name, if it floats my boat I'll listen to it!
I used to go for the "air force greatcoat" look at school, and could never get my long flowing mane due to me having curly hair, so it sort of went into a big bush!!! :laugh
I know one very well known member on here used to be a punk, I know, I have seen the photo ;)

Geddy's voice seems to get a lot of stick, poor bloke. I think it's great myself! There have been so many great moments in vocalisation history from him. What about the famous 'whoa whoa - you can be the captain & I will draw the chart...' business from Closer To The Heart? Surely one of his finest moments? Any one got any others? How about all the Rush fans start a NZCon every year like the Rush one in Europe... Just an idea!
