Perhaps I am asking for you to read tea leaves here, but if we would like to make the move in June 06, when should I do my EOI?
Should I allow a year for safe timing? We have 110 points, with no job offer, perhaps closer to the time we might have one, so perhaps we should wait.
Any advice would be excellent.
Our points are for primary's work experience, age, degrees, partner's degree. No hope of improving any of that really. Perhaps a couple more years of work though.

Hi Tigerlily,
We submitted our EOI and were selected August 18th. So far we haven't been invited to apply, I'm hoping that the timing will work out that we can get over there before June next year, although that's entirely speculative at the moment.
I would suggest that you should submit sometime early next year, when you get your visa you have a year within which to go over. Also note that it is possible that for next years intake the points "may" go back up.
I hope the above helps but at the moment I don't think anyone without a job offer knows how long the process will take.
Mark. :P

Hi tigerlily
you may want to check out the ammendments to the eoi points system. you may be able to claim more points.
the points have been sitting at 100 for a while now, so chances are next time round you could be selected. it's also possible that when the new ammendments come through, they'll increase the points if many eoi submissions are bumped up beyond the 100 mark.
if you plan to move in june 06, it's not too early to start things moving. it could take as much as 3 months (maybe less, but probably more) for an ita once you're selected. then you have 4 months to get all your paperwork in order. once you've submitted your application, it could take 3-6 months to get PR. that's already a year (admittedly, quite a pessimistic forecast, but it could work in your favour) and i think you have about a year before you have to arrive in NZ.
if i were you, i'd go for it, because the points are low now, but they may not always be.

Thank you for the info. And I had my date wrong- it's really December 06 at the earliest (this is a long program my husband is in)- so I think I might be ok to wait 6 months before applying- give it time to be sure this is what we want to do.
May I ask where the best points calculator is? The NZIS site is so general as to not be too helpful. This site has a just fine one, but is there a place with more details?
