HELP!!!

We leave for New Zealand in February and are taking my Parents only Grand children with us !!!

Im sure this is a familiar tale of a very close family being separated by a "few hundred thousand" miles for the first time!.

I love my parents very much and they have been SO supportive and understanding as to why we wish to go half way around the world...but it dosent make the impending fairwell very easy to stomach ,and I am going to miss them sooooo much !

I have been told that we can sponsor them after a few years ,so that they can retire in New Zealand and live with us...however I have read a few stories of this not being the case ?

I cant bear the thought that they will end up in an old folks home here in the U.K all alone when they become too old to travel and see us !!!

Has anybody actually managed to sponsor their parents yet????

Hi Sarah,
I have looked into this deeply and I am unable to bring my parents over as I have more than one brother in UK . As long as you have been in NZ for more than 3 years and only have one brother or sister in uk then you could bring them over check this link for more details

Kindest regards

On the same theme, my MIL wants to settle here to be near our kids, looking at the link on the last post, it mentions in its examples children in a 3rd country.

Does anyone know if NZ immigration class Scotland,England, N Ireland & Wales as 4 countries, as my MIL has 2 in NZ 2 in Scotland (Home Country) & 2 in England.
:roll

Ive just (finally) updated this thread regarding my trials and tribulations with family sponsorship. It gives the details and timelines - just bear in mind it will be 5 years for you. Thats probably going to be VERY tough. Im stuggling with the thought of another year+ to go! But hang in there!

It really does depend on how many brothers and sisters you have and where they live.

Heard a case recently where parenst lived in Africa, 2 children lived in Uk, 1 in the states, 1 in NZ. They wanted to come to NZ, and were told no, but they argued it - because its where the children are in relation to where they grew up and the family was based. In this case, as ALL the children had migrated from Africa, the Ceneter of gavity was no loger in africa, and they could be sponsored.

I know it's 5 years before you can apply for citizenship now but i understood that you have to have resided in Nz on a residency permit for 3 years before you can sponsor anyone on your family. Am i wrong?

I cant swear to it - but I think thats the case - certianly thats what the lady at NZIS was saying as well. I have to be honest though and say that I really dont know 100%, becasue it doesnt affect us and so ive not kept up to date with this. Im pretty sure the answer is in one of the threads on citizenship / family sponsorship, becasue we have discussed this before.
