We have been looking at houses and have found one in Marton, not sure of the area but it sounds lovely.
My main concerns are finding a good primary school and the distance to Palmerston North where we will be working!
Any help would be greatly appreciated
thank you sarah x x x x

Hi Sarah .... further to our PM earlier .... just this very minute got back from Marton - went to see brother in law for his birthday.
Some reasonable properties out there. Don't know about junior schools but as far as senior schools go, I understand the kids are bussed to either Palmerston North, Feilding or Wanganui ..... all of which have good schools.
If you're feeling really flush there's always Huntly boys school in Marton - a private school which has a fantastic reputation. Got a couple of mates who's kids go there, they get (IMHO) a superior education ........ if only I could win the lotto ours would go there too.

Hi Sarah
Don't know much about Marton at all, I'm starting my steep learing curve in 3 weeks when we move up that way from Welly. I've just looked on zoomin and we'll be about 10 mins from Marton as the crow flies but longer by road. :D
If you do settle there, let me know, I'm always up for coffee. :nice1

The backside of nowhere is the best way to say it. :D
As the crow flies ok but via the roads a bit of a drive. Maybe I'll learn to fly.
Hah! OH says no need to, just dust my broomstick off.

It's not Lake Alice is it ??????
(that's the derelict mental hospital).
You won't be far from my mother in law ...... make sure she doesn't nick your broomstick !!!
We were over that way yesterday - nice part of the country. Fancy meeting for lunch when you're settled?

Hi Sarah, we are in Palmy..have been here 18 months and we LOVE it..way exceeded all our expectations. Have you thought of living in Palmy..its fantastic..you would cut out the commuting and have everything on your doorstep..great schools, endless to do, great schools and kindergartens, no traffic, great shops, 25 parks and open spaces, loads of cinemas, theatres, 50 cafes, 70 restaurants the list is endless...we even have a dive school..two i think and an indoor climbing centre..aswell as golf, bowling a fantastic swim centre..plus two others and fantastic walk ways..got a great square too..do you think i should work for the tourist board?? Then the surrounding area has even more to offer, gorge walking, jet boating, white water rafting, horsey things and many more attractions!! PM me if you like you could call me and I will give you more marvellous facts about this marvellous city..just 40 mins to endless deserted beaches, two and a half hrs to great ski fields and 2 hrs to Wellington..bet you never heard so many good things about an allegedly boring place!!!! :raebanana

Palmestone really sounds the place to be...its just the price of property!
Marton is a lot cheaper, I love to drive ,and if you compare it to the commute here in the U.K .....Well lets just say it cant get any worse than that !!!!
Thanks for all the support and We must all get together.

Just to let you guys know, Sarah and family are currently en route to Palmerstson, she left Heathrow yesterday evening and, if her flights are still on time should have left Taipei an hour ago.
She wanted to thank you all who helped her - particularly Diny and she will catch up with you once she's sorted out.
By the way, she has bought herself a house in Marton and already made friends there :nice1 .
Now I just have to do my best to get out there myself ;) .
