Jobs for service engineers (a few here)
I know a guy who is looking for service engineers, he’s an immigrant too and knows what it’s like to try and get work while applying from another country. (yup a pain in the ***)
Basically he’s looking for people with a background in power electronics servicing, if you know your BJT and IGBT from your FETs and you can repair technology along the lines of SMPS then he will want to talk to you.
The locations are in various parts of NZ and when I asked him about work permits he said he’d sort out the permits for you.
Basically he will put you in as a bench service engineer, get your training sorted out so you have an NZ electrical license, then relocate you to an area where you will be the area service engineer.
He’s a really good guy, a very laid back SA bloke and a thoroughly nice man. My only bit of advice is don’t bluff about your experience on this one (not that anyone on the forum would). Basically you will find yourself dealing with high current sources at up to 0.5kV DC (which are simply lethal if you don’t know what your doing) as well as standard 3 phase industrial lines. The important thing is an understanding of power electronics; you will get assistance and training in the rest.
I don’t know the salary I guess that depends on how much it costs to get you here, train and licence you, I do know he’s a decent guy who heads the service department of a large company.
If you want to PM me your details, I’ll simply hand them on, My friend doesn’t know I’m posting this, the idea came from a conversation I was having with him today. He told me that he is “importing” as many service engineers as he could, but he was finding it really hard to get candidates.
