Called my visa officer today, and she said our 2 year work visas for myself and my wife have been approved!! I am so happy and relieved, because we are supposed to be flying out on the 3rd of November.
If any one wants any advice and applying for work visas / jobs in NZ I'll be more than happy to help.

Hi Greenday
Congratulations! I'd be interested in finding out more about what a 2 year working visa entails, how it differs from applying for PR. If you have the time, could you point me in the right direction?

congratulations. But I do not advise to come on work visa because you lose many benefits in this case!

I just want to add a comment on PR vs work visa.
I am a New Zealander living in Sweden with my Swedish partner. Recently I emailed immigration saying that I was planning to come to NZ in December and apply for PR my partner while in the country. Immigration advised us not to do this. The officer said it would be faster (and indeed it is much cheaper) to apply for a work visa. Apparently it can take up to a year to process PR. AND we would be entering NZ on a tourist visa, when our intentions would obviously be something else.
I am a bit puzzled about the benefits you might lose, mentioned above by BPK. Apparently on a work permit you are entitled to health care.
Anyhow, as a result of this sudden change of plan, we are waiting impatiently for a medical (the last step, we hope) so we can come on November 30. If we get the work permit before we leave, we can come on one-way tickets, which is a saving.
Good luck to everyone,
Rose
