Hi all
I am new to this forum but it seems like the kind of place where I can blow off a little steam so here goes. :uhoh
I feel so low today as we are still at the completing EOI stage and with our wonderful Home Affairs department everthing has come to a grinding halt! I am actually wondering if it is all worth it. The frustration and the roller coaster ride my emotions have been taking ever since we made the final decision to go for it have been awful. I am sure I am not the only one feeling this but the paperwork is driving me mad and I find myself wondering if we will EVER get there.. :no
On the other hand a look at the country around me and the crime, corruption etc makes me want to stand steady in the ever increasing gale that is threatening to blow around me.
Sorry for the ranting just had to get it off my chest. :o

Hey - welcome - and that signature of yours! Love it.
Do keep going! Not everyone will like thier new life, but I really do believe that its absolutley worth trying it anyway. Its hard to get here - took us 2 years, and it will have taken probably 6-7 years by the time I get all my family out here. But no matter how many hoops we have to jump through - I truly belive we did the right thing. Without a doubt its frustrating, I lost count of how many time we thought we would never get here. But we did it - and we will never sit at home wondering what we missed.
The paperwork comes and goes - fill it in - send it off. Do that enough times - you get a blue sticker - and that DOES make it worth all the effort.

We first discussed coming in 2001 under the old points system, and where convinced we had enough points to make it. We told all the family and all the fall out that entailed. Then we ran our application through an immigration consultant, and he pointed out a potential problem. Turned out we were ONE point short and couldnt apply. We were devistated, it was like having our future taken away from us. Anyway three years later and everything changed. We still couldnt apply for residency straight away and went down the route of coming on holiday and getting work permits. We finally got residency in February this year, Five years after our initial attempt. So, keep plugging away there and you WILL make it.....

You will get there! Took us under a year from thinking stage to stage we are now going there in two weeks. Unlike others, our applications went throught quicker than we expect even we had lots of hiccup on the way! we used migration company help us but bit pricy...

Keep going!! It can be a very very hard slog for some people. I have a friend who has had so many hoops to jump through and only now is getting to the stage where the end is in sight.
You are looking to change your whole life and even though getting there is hard, think of the satisfaction you will feel when you finally get there. I feel so privileged every time I think about having the chance to change the life I am not overly happy with.
Don't give up!! It WILL be worth it in the end, if only so you won't look back in years to come and think if only.................... :D

oh yeah, good ol' south african government services...don't I miss those :)
Don't worry, you get there in the end. It takes a while, and can get totally frustrating and demoralizing sometimes, but eventually everything gets done, and then you are out of that place.
Just keep hold of the fact that nothing takes forever, and you are doing this for a very good reason.
To give you a bit of a carrot to keep on going:
A while after we moved here, we forgot our garage door open, that leads into the rest of the house. It was open the whole day, with nobody home. When we got back, everything was still here :)
We have no alarm system, no security gate, and no bars on the windows, and I never wonder what that sound in the night might be :)
Good luck, keep going, it is all worth it in the end

Thanks for all the positive messages guys I feel a lot better now. We finally got our NZQA assessment sorted out so we are at least a little step further than when I posted the original whinge. Steve I think at this stage a couple of gallons of wine would not be wasted!

Now you've found the forum - it will be a great sorce of help to you! When we first joined i didn't know ANYTHING - never even heard of an EOI and an ITA, frighten the pants off me  when I checked the immigration web site and saw the information they were wanting from us - but stick at it and if you come across a difficult hurdle, everyone on here will be behind you trying to help you climb over it!!!
And in a few months you'll find you can answer other people when they start asking questions and so the forum continues!
Good luck and believe me they will be hills, there will be mountains, a few easy flat bits (but they can get to you too - limbo land!!) but it will be worth it! (Well it'd better be - we haven't quite got there yet!)

Hi Dalene
Welcome to the forum :cheers:cheers
Like Marcia says it is daunting when you look at the amount of paperwork and hoops you have to jump through to get here. I remember just glazing over when OH asked me to check our EOI! :uhoh I appreciate it's more difficult for you coming from SA.
Take each step as it comes. If you need a rant, a cry or a shoulder, we're all here for you. We've all been though it too, so we'll know where you're at.
You will get here and after a while, look back and it will be a dim memory. Believe me it's worth the struggle. :nice1

Hi Dalene, I remember the frustration well :uhoh My oh had to fly to NZ to get professional registration and go through NZQA before we could submit our EOI!! Still, because we had so much paperwork in place the ITA was easy to collate so you may find the same......
Good luck, it'll be worth it in the end :yes

Thanks again to all
This week has been one of the roller coaster ones for me. OH got a reply from the NZQA on his assessment only 24 hours after submission! We were looking at a level 3 but they have put him at a level 4. Thisis wonderful news for us but also means that our time line is drastically shortened so have a million and 1 things to attend to now. we have hit a stale mate with the kids unabridged birth certificates so that is holding us up now. Well as you all said its part of the process. It does make it easier knowing that I am not alone in this boat. At least I have learnt to go with the flow - makes things a lot less stressful. Now if I could only pluck up the courage to be honest with my boss. Maybe I should wait until after Chrsitmas bonus time - mmmm

Hey, thats great news! Having to get on with things and do it quick is probably a blessing in disguise!
As for your boss, wait till after xmas bonus! I have learnt one thing in my recent working years, you dont live to work, you work to live.. so take all the money from them you are due for your hard work!

Yay! Im with Sal too!
"Show me the money!"
You earned it - take it - then calmly tell the boss you are off. Besides - that bonus could really help you settle into your new life here.

Thanks guys - I'll be in NZ in only 44 days yippee for a 6 week LSD trip. ( Look, See & Do). That bonus will come in real handy about then. Boss has been wonderful given me an extra 3 weeks holiday AND preapproved a 13 and 1/2 bonus cheque. Then again he thinks I am only going to visit family - poor man. But desperate times call for desperate measures and all that so as soon as I get back I will have to have a good heart to heart over a cup of tea.
