Hi all
We are in the process of packing all our house goods for shipping and wondered how you got on with wrapping wooden furniture for shipping. We have a large teak kitchen table, chairs , a console table and also 2 heavy 6 drawer bedroom chests. I seem to think wrapping in blankets is not considered good practice as over the voyage they can rub causing marking but any advise would be grateful. We have bubblewrap and heavy paper for wrapping larger items but just not sure how to go about it.
Thanks
Scotia

I would find this useful too, as we are self packing.....

Just a thought?
Join a few sheets of the heavy paper together and wrap around the cabinet or table top etc and then secure with more packing tape wrapped round That way you're not sticking it directly to the furniture. It's going to need 2 pairs of hands though.
Protect any corners with cardboard or bubblewrap if you can and you can always wrap in clingfilm after you've papered. I've never done it but have seen it done by removal mean.
There is some really stiff paper you can get from packers to go round the whole lot too, also in a corrogated version. Also wrap table legs the same way.
It's worth going overboard on the wrapping if you can. Hmmm probably a wrong choice of phrase there but hope you understand what I mean. ;) HTH Good luck.

Thanks for the advice Smiler,Your ideas sound like a good way to go. A friend of ours got a nice hand painted chest ruined when it was shipped ( bad scratching on the top) and all the packing was done by the shippers. Have sold the house and my husband and I have got 5 days to start and finish the packing and clear the house. Have we allowed enough time I ask myself! Stuff being shipped in a shared container out to Napier and we arrive there mid Feb so should all be there when we arrive (Just waiting for my PR to come through now but thats another story!) Great forum, always lots of good practical advice and lots of funny stories too!
Cheers
