Hi everyone I've been looking at the forum for a while now and it is really informative. My trade is on the immediate skills shortage list and I wondered if anyone has just gone over to NZ on a 6 month visitor permit and been able to get a job offer and then apply for a Work Permit which then gives you 2 years to apply for residency whilst being in work in NZ, my wife and I are are extemely keen to get over there, just sell up here in the UK. We are both 52 and our children grown up one is actually a resident in Australia? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated

Hi Trevor Joe

I'm no use with the visa's part sorry I'm getting rusty on all that. But someone else will help, I know.

I just wanted to say welcome to the forum and good luck with all your plans. :cheers:cheers

Whereabouts are you heading in NZ?

With the exception that we didnt sell up before we came, thats exactly what we did. At the time (May 04) the point selection was too high for us to apply for residency before we came.

Hi Trevor joe

We are doing something very similar although renting our home out in UK - flying on the 20th of November- once we had made the decision to upsticks we had to move quickly due to a number of things - and so rather than wait we are 'going for it'. Make sure if you need any qualifications assessed that you do it quickly - it does take a while and you can not work until you have your qualifications assessed by the NZQA
good luck

Not all qualifications need to be assessed by NZQA. There is a list of institutions from which degrees etc are accepted without needing to be NZQA approved.

I did the visitor, work visa, PR route too. I wanted to be sure I would enjoy it before I committed myself. (Call me chicken!)
