New Zealand - Hello from yorkshire

Hello from Jim and Karen we currently live near Skipton West Yorkshire and we are in the process of migrating to New Zealand. EOI has just been selected from the pool.Jim came across the forum a couple of days ago and we hve spent the weekend reading threads.The forum is going to be excellent for getting different views and perpectives. Anyway we are going to NZ on 23rd Nov for a holiday/recci when we booked this was not the plan but due to Jims redundancy if we get visas this will be a new lifestyle. We are looking at settling in Nelson I [Karen] will be looking for a nursing post does anyone know anything about Nelson hospital or the surrounding area? jim wil be looking for a post in IT We hope to be in Nelson early Dec as we have hired a camper van to see as much as posible.

Welcome to the forum :) .
Hope you find this forum as helpful as we have over the last couple of weeks - a great source of useful information.
Did you know there is an expo in Manchester next weekend - may also prove useful... especially if you have not yet secured employment.
We have also just been selected from the pool - so we are now playing the waiting game...

Wow another family from Yorkshire deserting the sinking ship!! :p

Can't give you any advice about Nelson - we didn't get to SI on our reccy trip. But just wanted to Hi from a fellow Yorkshire lass (but not for much longer!)

You'll find the people on the forum really helpful and friendly, and if you get get chance try and go to any of the 'meets' that take place - it's great to go and talk to like minded people and we have made some fantastic friendsfrom the NW meets!

We are from West Yorkshire (Normanton) and now live in Palmerston North.

We're from Skipton! Good luck with the move. Can't tell you much about Nelson other than that it's a nice town. The sunniest place in NZ (official) and has a great speedway track. Home to the Nelson Tigers stock car team.

Hi dangermouse we are going to expo on Sunday hope it helps to secure empolyment plan to take cvs etc but going with an open mind. Good to hear from people playing the waiting game like ourselfs. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for your reply Marcia fellow yorkshire lass there will only be the two of us migrating as our two daughters are settled here with there partners I feal sick at the thought of leaving them but they have given us their blessing.We will sorting out web cams for both of them. thanks Helen and John can I ask you why were you declined and has Palmeston lived up to your expectations and how did you make the choice we decided on considering Nelson due to feedback and research but we have an open mind.Thanks for feedback wolfysmith we will get a lot of feedback from likeminded people who tell it like it is We are interested in meets from people with simular interests thanks everyone bye for now

Hi Guys,

Good luck with the move - we left Skipton (Cononley to be exact) last year and now live near Wellington. Nelson is gorgeous, although you may struggle with IT-related positions (did you speak to Gen-i at the Expo? they have an office in Nelson too), can't imagine you'll have too much problems finding a nursing post though.

Yet another Yorkshire Lass here from Leeds but currently living in Dunfermline. We have just received our ITA after almost 3 months of waiting. Hopefully getting medicals done on 16th November.

We went to the Expo in London on Friday and there seemed to be quite a few healthcare stalls about. We are hoping to settle in Christchurch but may have to settle on Wellington as that seems to be where most of the jobs are for OH.

We to live in Yorkshire, Pontefract. I loved the Nelson area, especially Richmond on the out skirts. Sister in Law a nurse, she works in Wellington. If it Nelson hospital had a better ICU she would love to move to Nelson.

Just got nursing registration through so thats one job out of the way. plan to take cv to expo on sun with oh wh is looking for IT work bit fed up at the moment thought people letting us down with house sale but hey ho will get there in th end.Looking forward to holiday in NZ in Nov

Another Yorkshire person! After my degree in chch I'll probably be joining my family in Nelson! We're from South Yorkshire (Sheffield!). Never knew so many Yorkshire people could be on the same forum!
Hi could you tell us any highs and lows about Nelson and empoyment oportunities for general nursing and IT

Hi Louise Just reading thread nursing hangover after saying goodbye to my friend who is migrating to oz i feel like i have joined the rollercoster as at the moment there is lots going on here oh beng redudant 3rd Nov lots of time wasters viewing house waiting game of aplications but hey ho the forum is keeping us gong just having a bit of a moan i am not normally a moaner I am a happy go lucky person. i am really pleased for your hubby securing work do you know much about Nelson?
