Hello,
I'm sure this is old hat to most of you, but I thought I'd share it in case it helps someone out!
I'm flying Air NZ via Hong Kong. We have returns booked for next July, but these are changeable - thought it was worth getting them in case we want to pop back for a hol next summer - only cost a couple of hundred £ more.
Anyway, via HK you get the standard 20kgs, plus I get an extra 10kgs for the bike I'm taking.
But, via LA you get two bags up to 23kgs each!
If I'd thought to book my dummy return via LA, I would have got 23kgs x 2 both ways, even though only one leg was via LA (and I might not have gone via LA on the way back anyway as the flight is changeable!)
With excess baggage at £32 per kilo, I wish I'd known this before I booked! I've got the option of paying £50 to change my return flight, which is still probably worth it for the extra 16kgs, given my stuff will have been shipped so I'll be living in the house with the bare munimum I can stuff in my flight bags!
Travelmood (our travel agents) and Air NZ have both told me that you get the LA allowance even if only one of your journeys is via the States.
I only wish they'd told me before I'd booked!
