We're trying to figure out when to lodge our EOI. We know roughly when we want to be out there by but don't know how long the whole thing will take...... it seems from reading posts it can take a while.

Our application was really fast once we got it in, had most of the stuff organised for the ITA, so we could do a quick turn around, also did have a job offer which speeds the process up.
We will be in NZ on 15th November, but we are leaving with the house unsold!! :no
I would recommend getting the house on the market even before you apply if you are truely commited to going - you can always stall the process if you need to to and I would personally have gone into rented for a few months if it meant securing a sale!! :roll

Yes it is dependent on lots of things, but we got our application to receiving PR in 8 months.
Good luck in your application and welcome to the forum!!! :nice1

we put our house for sale once we had our EOI in - as this stopped us getting to AUS in the 90's. if you look at the signature of this you will see the dates ...
we went via Skilled Migrant Catagory as my OH is a tradesman
I think that if the house sale is dependant on your funds for getting over here - then you need to factor in selling it first, as it gets very frustrating when your goals are held back because its hanging around your neck like a millstone.
Good luck
ps whats with the names showing up under your seletion??? mine didnt show so - I picked less than 1 year as it was July 05 and we flew out 31st May 06

Sorry can't figure out how to edit the poll section.
We're not going to go unless my hubbie has a job offer. Was just interested in how long it takes. We're intending to put out EOI in at Yule but we were beginning to wonder if it needed to go in earlier.
Cheers everyone.

There's a very comprehensive thread on this somewhere that was filled out by many people - was about a year ago maybe someone can point you to it to help.
We applied in Oct for EOI (2004) and by beginning Dec we had PR & moved here begin Jan (2005).
It totally depends on job offers & what job the offer is for & how busy they are - OH had an offer in an area that was in high demand over here & they only took 5 days to process our full application & issue stickers in passports. (this is one of the fastest turn-arounds I've heard of)

Literally a few days under 1 year. We put our EOI in as soon as applications opened for it - but then got held up waiting through the slow (ever so slow) crawl for the points to come down to somthing approaching reasonable.
Just checked the ates - the eOI got accepted on the 9th February 2004 (though we put it in some weeks before that) and we landed in NZ on the 31st December 2004 (Visa granted on the 4th November 2004)

We decided mid Sept 2004 to do it..and by 22nd April 2005 we were in NZ...and that was with significant delays re nursing vetting/paperwork. We did all the paper work ourselves...or Kate did..its not that onerous. NZ has way exceeded our expectations..its not perfect but our lives here are sooooooooooooo much better than in central northampton. Miss folk, friends and some of the stuff about the UK..but with 3 very young kids I know where I would rather be. The place is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :raebanana

We had our EOI selected Feb '05. Got the ITA in March but held it most of March and April getting things ready to go. Still had PR granted in early June '05. We didn't come over until April of '06.
If you don't send your passport in with your ITA (but send certified copies instead) then once you have PR in Principle (that's what they call PR when they don't have your passports on hand) you will have up to 6 months to get passports to them and then up to a further year from when they put your visas in your passports, giving you 18 months leeway in choosing when you want to come to NZ. Since immigration rules change, if you are elligible now it might be better to start the process as soon as possible -- unless you need more than 18 moths before making the move...

If you need the job offer to get the points, then I'd say collect as much of the paperwork as you can (but not the medicals or the police reports yet, since they expire). They will get you through the process fairly quickly so that you can get to that job. But I've seen house sales slow people down more than anything.
On the other hand, if you have the points, go ahead and apply now. You can drag your feet quite a bit to buy some extra time. We took as long as possible with our ITA, so the whole process has taken us 9 months from EOI submitted to being approved in principal. Now we are taking out time again before paying the migrant levy and finally getting those blue stickers. Not waffling, really, just waiting for OH to finish his degree and hopefully get a job soon thereafter.

EOI in with enough points no job offer, mid March 05
Selected straightaway.
Received ITA end May.
ITA returned mid July
All change with Job offer end Sept. Interview and PR granted within a couple of days, we shipped out the next week. :D
So 6 months but when the job offer came through we hadn't even been assigned a case officer. They did pull out all the stops then. :nice1
