We're going to be arriving in Wellington on Nov 15th. We're trying to decide on a plan of action for housing.
We found this place: http://www.centurycity.co.nz/inner_city/332TheQuay.html (http://www.centurycity.co.nz/inner_city/332TheQuay.html)
It appears super nice. It is $650NZ a week. We understand that is a little on the pricey side, but it's furnished and seems like a nice place while we get our bearings.
First question, anyon ever seen this place?
Secondly, do you think we should stay there for 2 weeks or a month? My concern is, if we don't find a rental soon enough, the holiday season will really affect renting....what's it like trying to find a place during their summer vacation? 4 weeks at the place puts us at Dec 15th, right smack during holiday....
What do you guys think? 2 weeks? 4? 6?
Can't wait!

We stayed in what's new on Boulcott when we arrived and it's very corporate, if a bit tired, I guess you know the kind of place, they look nicer in the photo's.
We only stayed a week and TBH I hated it but thats me. :D It was booked for us by OH's employer and by the week end OH hated it too. We went all out to get a rental and settled in a proper house at the end of our first week.
Either of the places you linked to are central, the Leeds Street looks newer than Boulcott St, but may be noisier though, especially at weekends. It's in the middle of some busy one way streets too.
I'd book for 2 weeks and see what happens, you'll be able to get an extension or somewhere else easily enough. What's new were helpful and flexible and we could have extended if we'd needed too but it was expensive and we wanted to find a place to rent together before OH started work.
If you'll have a car, check whether you get a car space, otherwise it can be expensive on parking in a proper car park overnight, as opposed to the street which is free from 6pm - 8 am. Then $4 an hour. It may be difficult to find a space around Leeds St though sometimes, epsecially during restaurant time.

Hi Justin & Lori
Both of the apartments are in the centre of town and could be a little noisey, Leeds St is a little further from the centre of the CBD but still within 10 min walk or so, Lambton Quay is right in the CBD.
If you are going to purchase a car then parking can be a real problem in the CBD unless your accomadation has a parking arrangement.
You would be able to rent a good house for less than the amount your going to pay for the apartments if you go out of town a little but you need to be here and have a look around, there are s lot of rental agents in Wellington so you should find something, i would agree with Smiler rent for 2 weeks and see how it goes while you look around.
good luck with the move

I booked 332 The Quay for a month. The units are about a year old and I spoke to the rental office for quite awhile. With Internet it's $700NZ a week. Sure, that's pretty expensive, but we budgeted it for our first month and it's being covered by my employer.
We won't be getting a car initially as my office is in CBD and hopefully we can find a place to live long term until our dog arrives in 6+ months (then we need a house).
I hope not having a car isn't a problem...=)
