Does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere to stay in Queenstown - am hoping to go down with my folks in December. Hotel / motel / holiday home - doesn't matter.
Thanks

Obviously the prices will be dearer in Dec
the other one we looked at was this one who were going to do a price of $180 for the 4 of us, but they didnt have a view of the lake left, but it looked a nice place - they were friendly too - answering my emails promptly (I think I will go have a look for when Rach comes in Jan as we are going up again then too) so I will let u know

All I can say is it was good fun - EXPENSIVE - Very Expensive!......
BUT FUN............ I will update my blog ASAP....... BUT after spending wads of dosh................ oh and I the plan didnt exactly go as we planned - arriving slightly later than we wished.....
a good tip to anyone driving to the lakes...... get there before DARK!!!
We hit the lake roads at dark......Well Scary...imagine an hour rollercoaster, sheer drops at the side and twisty turns and bends, hardly any signs to warn of sharp corners or barriers..... White Knuckle to say the least, especially for the passenger, as I was sat nearest the edge!! and rob was trying to follow the guys lights in front.....who was going silly speeds! :roll
:( Rob felt that the car was not steering properly, (after I took it in for a timeing belt change and service!) so we drove into the drive on Monday afternoon and the fanbelt part of the engine FELL OUT! (Guess I should be happy we weren't driving on those bends around the lake!) - So robs cars in the shop (I am not paying for it either!) I had to tax jords car to get me and him to work as Robs got mine!
The electricity wasnt working at the house....the wire connecting it from the pylon to the house was sparking and arcing.... :( so we had to call the emergancy electrician out - and its wear & tear/corrosion so we foot the bill
Oh well better get earning some dosh to fill up my empty bank balance

Hi Helen, well I managed to update our blog, I have linked our Photobucket to it too so you can see all the pics.
If your not bothered about price for your stay, I think the Crown Plaza has a great view, if you get lake side rooms, and its right near the Wharf area and Bars etc.
There are some other hotels such as Lakeside Hotel, Rydges...
Amity Lodge was right up a steep hill - so I am glad I didnt pick that one even if the rooms were more modern - as It killed me walking up it once never mind a few times a day.
Amber lodge was a good choice for budget accomodation that was close to town, it was literally 5 mins walk into the centre, but further enough away for it to be quiet at night. It was clean but not flash (think 70/80's motel) the hot water was hot, but the heater on the wall didnt work, but we didnt really need one as it didnt get that cold.
The pubs stay open till 4am ish (well I think thats what time Jordon crawled in on Saturday night!)
The Resturants were a reasonable price, about the same as in Invercargill, its Just the activities that hurt the bank balance!
Most of the Pubs didnt get busy till after midnight, and before that it was mostly family and older clientelle.
hope that helps, I have added a pic of the road from the Amity Lodge! steep or what.
I think if you check the address location on a map you will be able to work out which hotel will be the best for your trip.

Cheers Kat - we're saving for the trip! :D
We want to do the Shotover, flying fox and the ice bar (made of ice and they give you anoraks to wear inside!) inbetween wandering around Queenstown and the gondola.
Parents want to do the steam boat dinner cruise :roll . And as we're there for just 2 nights I guess that's all we'll have time for! We're flying down to save time and we've plonked for the 2 bed lake view apartment at the Outrigger. Mum and Dad are paying :raebanana
